30% is about where you want to be on an OC really anyway due to the 'problems' that can happen if pushed anymore, that being said there haven't really been any decent OC chips since the Q6600 which was 2.4 stock you can get 3.4 easily on air with not much fuss (50% near as damn it OC)
There is however a new chip just launched G6950 (which costs £75) which is a stock dual core 2.8GHz 32nm Clarkdale CPU (locked muptiplier  ) which can be overclocked to 4.62GHz without even breaking a sweat, it's only limited by a boards 220MHz base clock (you can't push more than this without water) so it looks like Intel is going back to the way they made chips around the Q6600 time, which is great news for Overclockers ;)

What's the heat increase though on load? can it run Prime95 smallfft stress test etc

Re: Prime95 smallfft stress test. I assume this is freeware. Where can I DL it ?

Edit: Found it. When I have time I'll test.

Okay....... Frustration ain't my bag baby.

    I can run / game @ 3910 Mhz / 1.55 Volts without a hiccup.

But, as soon as I try to run Prime95 my system crashes.

    He he,

At the end of the day, if the system is 'stable' for your needs, then it would probably be fine, tests like Prime are designed to find any slight weaknesses in a system OC/system, so dont take it to heart. people spend days getting Prime to run, and when it does and completes you know that the system will be capable of handling any tasks you throw at it.

When you start OCing and compare against other peoples OC, they ALWAYS want a Prime and a CPUZ screenshot

I know. I wasn't banging my head on my desk. I'm really not into that whole third eye thing.
What would be useful is having Prime95 ID the cause of the crash, instead of just crashing.
Then it would make sense to continue the process. Just pass or fail doesn't cut the mustard.

It used to generate a report, does the one you have do that, I think it goes into C:/documents

Found results file. It only has results for completed tests.
On the upside... I went back to 3818Mhz (224x17.0). I pushed
other voltages no more than two steps above stock. The smallfft
test ran approx. thirty seconds before crashing. An improvement,
    certainly. Below are current settings.

    .

    Any Suggestions ?

    Okay. Scratch my last post.

    Currently running 3705Mhz (224x16.5 @ 1.55 VCore).
Presently working on passing SmallFFT 24K test on Desktop.

Edit: Passed SmallFFT 32K test of Prime95.

Are you using the AMD Overdrive software to OC the PC or are you using the BIOS?
I haven't used an AMD chip for a LONG time, well to OC anyway

    Software OCs are very unstable

I've never done a soft overclock. Not even once.

Because it throttles back the CPU, I even have AMD's
"Cool 'n' Quiet" disabled in the Bios on my System

I used AMD Overdrive solely for the purpose of displaying
the settings I was using for the purpose of overclocking.

Good, just wanted to check B)

cool and quiet wont stop an OC like it used to on the older AMD architectures

Okay. Here's where we're at today: 3732 Prime95 Bulletproof Mhz (up from 3705).
Prime95 test time down from 2:40:46 to 2:05:36.
Seeing I am 5-6*C from the thermal limit of the CPU during Prime95 testing,
I'm not going any further with my current cooling solution.

Will the Corsair H50 do better than my Zalman CNPS990LED ?

Those Zalman ones were quite good a while ago, with watercooling it'll be much quieter and allow you to push the OC a lot further.

Im not sure of pricing of the H50 in the US, but its around £55-60 in the UK, it only comes with 1x 120 RAD though so it wont be able to cool anything else along with the CPU

There was some talk of an H60, but didnt know there was an H70 coming this way, still just adding another fan wont really help as much as people think, you would be better just getting the H50 and adding your own fan like an arctic cooling one, set to 2000RPM through a controller (when needed) (2000RPM on some fans sound like the old Vantec tornados  but arctic ones dont)
