    That's quite an interesting read.
But i'd still be hard pressed to recommend Avast.
I'd be more inclined to recommend: Bitdefender Free which i'm trying out on my Win8.1 system.

I will be interested in your findings Starbuck, I am still hanging on to MSSE for the time being as I am wary of Avast these days too.

    Hi Nev,
Have only been using BitDefender for a couple of days, so still early days.
So far it seems to be what they say.....Very light on resources and no nagging popups to get you to upgrade to the paid version.
and it doesn't try and add any 'extras'.
Have recently been working on some 'logs' that included Avast and it was causing all sorts of problems for the users.

I used to use Avast, then something happened to the company and straight after that Avast updated as usual, then on a scan it pulled several files as harmful which were in fact very necessary parts of some software I had installed, so therefore pulling lots of false positives. I informed the makers of Avast, with no reply, and also the makers of the very expensive music notation software, they did reply and told me to stop using Avast, they knew about the problem and told me that Avast refused to rectify it. That is when I went over to MSSE.

    Nev.

To be honest, i've never had a problem with MSSE and will keep running it on my XP and Win7 systems.
Am just trying BitDefender on the Win8.
It's a 'free' program, but i haven't recommended it in the past due to only recommending programs i've tried myself.
