    Hi andsome,

It's not quite the right forum, but no problem i'll move it.

I see that the 'Register' didn't go into too much detail.
There is a bit more here:
    http:/ ews.softpedi...on-310715.shtml

I wouldn't place too much importance of these so called tests..... look at what they didn't say:
Maybe I'm being a bit cynical here...... but if the industry average is 97%, why are the malware removal helpers so busy?
If all the products were as good as 97%, we'd all be working about one day a week.

I couldn't be happier since putting MSE on my Computers.
Nothing has got past and the OS's seem more stable.
Windows8 has Windows Defender which is an upgraded MSE

In the wild MSE does a good job.
False positives are nil so far.

I don't take much notice of controlled Bench Tests as we are not present to see how the tests are actually conducted.

Most of the well known AV's perform about the same.
In my opinion MSE has it's nose in front at the moment.

Yes well, I have a Hardware AV solution, that in bench tests has proved 100% effective at stopping Malware from spreading to other machine's, available from your local hardware store, It's called a large Hammer :D

But seriously I used to read review after review about AV's and Bench test scores, and after reading enough of them it becomes apparent their is no set standard of tests, and different AV's rate differently for each one, in some cases I would even say that the results are bias which raises the question on which reviews are truly independent.

one case in particular that I personally encountered was AVG Free a couple of years ago, I used to use it because all the reviews rated it as being good, then I got an infection, while doing some research on how to remove the infection it became apparent that on forum after forum their was thread after thread on removing infections from machines protected with AVG, yes the statistics at the time could easily explain this. but if the reviews were right then the maths just didn't add up in my mind.

Now older and wiser I don't view an AV as an impenetrable defence. but as more of a wall or obstacle in the way of infection, I don't bother with the reviews but use an AV that I am happy with, that doesn't take control of my system and doesn't annoy me with endless pop ups asking me if I want processes to be allowed. to me the best defence against Malware is a regular Back Up system. should I encounter an infection I know I have a number of clean copies of important documents and folders to fall back on, so I'm sorry to say Starbuck you won't be seeing me as one of your customers, as I can formate my drives and have them back up and running with clean images with in an hour. :)

While such tests/reviews are of interest and may give a general idea I don't consider them the final word. For me the final word is my own experience with a product. For what it's worth I am totally happy with the combination of MSE and MBAM Pro. Shoot I just the other day cleaned a system with that stupid fake FBI warning. That system was running Norton. Norton didn't stop it but MSE and MBAM cleaned it.
