    Congratulations, John!

Do you have a flash drive?
You can copy and paste the files or drop and drag them onto the flash drive.
Transfer them from the flash drive to the new computer.
You will only be able to transfer pictures, documents, music and videos this way.
Unfortunately, you will have to reinstall all of the programs.

Unless you have the programs in a download folder.
You can then put them on a flash drive and install them from the flash.

I believe this sounds like what I need to do. Put old files & folders on the two laptops which are together and have lots of unused space. Have some 500 GB external HDD also and can plug them in to wall and to laptops. NAS and such seems expensive and complex beyond my needs if not abilities. Glad I saw this. Not even programs...just files and folders.
