    Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions regarding the fan headers on my motherboard. Mostly, I am looking for clarification on a couple things. Before I begin, here is my build details via PC Parts Picker's website:

    https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/edit/?userbuild=BqHhP6

I have the Gigabyte x399 Aorus Gaming 7 motherboard, and I am using the NZXT Kraken x62 AIO cooler for my Threadripper CPU.

On the board, I know that the system fans are for things like case fans, and the CPU fan is for the main fan on a air cooled CPU setup. I am some what confused on my setup though and the other options my board has.

I am upgrading all my case fans and my radiator fans tomorrow to the Corsair LL140 fans, and I am going to be re-wiring my entire system and re-doing all my cable management. On my board, I have several fan headers. These are labeled:

    CPU_Fan
    CPU_Fan_Opt
    SYS_FAN1/2/3/4
    SYS_Fan5_Pump
    SYS_Fan6_Pump

All headers are 4 pins. I know that 4 pins are PWM and if you have a PWM fan, they can be contrrolled with software using fan curves, and I know 3 pin fans run at the same speed all the time. But with my setup and not using an air cooled CPU cooler and using the AOI liquid system, am I suppose to use any of the SYS_Fan_PUMP headers? Or use the CPU_Fan and CPU_Opt?

My system runs fine right now, but when I do my tear down tomorrow and re-wire the case, I want to make sure I have it done correctly, especially if anything is incorrect right now. I can't really tell where my AIO water block and radiator fans are plugged in. What header should I be using? I am assuming the CPU_Fan headers are different then the system fan headers power wise? Just looking to clarify the differences between these headers and AIO liquid coolers.

    Thanks for any replies!

I wish I could help you with this Liberty, but I haven't worked on custom systems in about 15 years. I now stay clear of custom system nightmares:)

If you can't get an answer on this forum, then I suggest you post on the Gigabyte forum, as your questions are very specific to the motherboard itself.

    Thanks for the reply.

I think I have this figured out now, actually. The pump plugs into the cpu_fan header and the Kraken has its own radiator plugs I didn't notice until last night. So my radiator fans are powered through SATA that runs through the pump.

    Thanks for the reply though!
