I was considering getting a one-line Consumer Cellular phone for emergency use. 1 GB is the cheapest plan offered. Is this adequate? I don't understand the GB thing or what it means. Is it OK to start with a 1 GB or go to a 10, 15 or more? I have had cell phones in the past but never considered the GB. Thanks for any suggestions, tips, or explanations.

Note: This phone would be for emergency use only, not for lots of data, watching movies, downloading, etc. Like car breakdown or health emergency. I believe lots of GB means lots of apps and activities involving data usage. The consumer cellular offer is 1 GB, one line for $20 per month. And I suppose I must purchase a phone. I had a cellphone before, always carried it, but never used for any emergency situation.

It should be more than adequate, Bill.

I have the 1 GB plan with Consumer Cellular and never use more than a few MB so you will have more than enough if you want to use some data.

Since you have unlimited calls, you'd use that for emergencies and not touch the 1 GB data at all.

Since not working now and thus not going to remote places and risking whatever, we have decided it is best to have an emergency inexpensive cellphone like Consumer Cellular with Target and AARP to carry in case of car trouble or emergency when either or both leave the house since the older Tracfones quit working. So we are considering Consumer Cellular. A 1 GB seems inexpensive and not doing "other stuff" with phone.

I recommend using your cell frequently enough that you’ll know how to use it when the need arises.

Know what you mean. Had a Tracfone in the beginning and mostly used it to call my brother and talk so as not to tie up the house line phone. Never had any emergency need that I recall. The Tracfone stopped working and I just stopped using it. Was unsure how to dispose of it and afraid.

I also wanted to mention that the AARP rate of $15/month is before PA and Federal taxes. The taxes/fees change every 3 months so you will see the price change every 3 months.
For example: April, May and June of 2023, my bill was $21.72. January, February and March, it was $21.22.
October, November and December of 2022, it was $21.13.

These prices seem affordable but I still will have to purchase a phone I suppose and we plan to go to target soon. Any suggestions or recommendations as far as phones? Need nothing fancy or elaborate.

I got mine through Consumer Cellular; it was shipped to the house - free. I bought a Samsung Galaxy A12 ($179). I don't see the need for a 5G phone yet. My old phone Galaxy J3 emerge still worked but the version of android was getting old so after 5 years, I figured I'd treat myself to a new phone and switch providers.

I didn't look at Target for a Consumer Cellular phone. I'm not sure what they had.
I got my husband a flip Tracfone at Target for $30 and it came with triple minutes. He doesn't do texts nor use data.

I already have two Tracfones that expired and I have no wish to try them. Maybe I can find a cheap emergency cel phone at target. My brother just said he had one that cost around $30.
Now I must go see if I can clean my Canon MP270 with a soft cloth and maybe a spray or two of Windex so ink smudges are gone and replace the black and color tanks.

Today we went to Target and bought a 1GB phone and an AARP $19/month line for emergencies if they should occur. Need a phone to carry when going out in car now that the Tracfones have been discontinued.

I have two Tracfones that ran out of service and quit. I see I have 30 days to offer for trade for new consumer cellular phone. Is this a bad or good idea. Don't know what to do with them really. No plans for reuse. Was planning on figuring out how to remove SIM card and destry them.

    1. Factory reset both phones.
I need a model number to tell you how to do it.

    2. After the phones have been factory reset - test by turning them on to be sure they are reset.
    3. Power off the phones, then remove the SIM card.
    4. Trade the phones for the new phone you just purchased.

You can destroy the SIM cards by smashing with a hammer or perhaps scratching the gold contact with a screwdriver.

I have 2 Tracfones Alcatel A463BG and one Alcatel Tracfone 205G but do not knw how to remove the SIM cards. Is there any way you could tell me how to do this or how I can find out how? Maybe the Target phone salees could remove them for me? But maybe trade in is only good if new phone costs a lot MORE? Anyway, all I caan do is destroy the cell phones with the SIM cards still in them OR learn how to remove them myself. I always meant to learn but never did. Now I do not know how nor how to find out. I do not know how best to dispose of a cell phone and need suggestions.

I would still like to be able to get the SIM card out. I can open the back but cannot remove the card. After thinking about it I decided I got about the cheapest phone and contract available so even if I could trade in the Tracfones it would not or could not be a significant benefit. I just got an offer in the mail to trade in my old phones and thought it might help. But I wouldn't be saving much even if I could trade them in. But I am not going to use them again so may as well destroy them.

    First phone
I downloaded the manual here https://www.manualslib.com/download/1076265/Alcatel-One-Touch-A463bg.html

Have the back of the phone facing up. On the lower left corner there is a notch to pry off the back cover. Remove the battery. The Sim (sd card) with be on the top left near the camera. Slide it out. Put the battery back in, snap the back cover on. You can drop off the phone at Bet Buy. They e-cycle free. I dropped off phones, house and car chargers at my local Best Buy.

I can't find Tracfone Alcatel 205G but I found A205G. Does it look like this?

If so it is almost the same.

I tried to dowload PDF for A463BG Tracfone but it seemed like a come on to sell me some WinZip thing so I uninstalled and removed it all.
