Indeed. They are basically trying to force everyone to 10 which I do not agree with. Not at all.

Giving it away for free tells me something is up their sleeves. They're not doing it because they made good profits.

Yeah they suck everyone in makes their subscription based plan work even better. Where it doesn't work is if 45% of users are still on Windows 7.

In fact a Linux distro is looking more and more attractive as each day comes along. Shame there is still a lot of good programs and apps that won't run on it, though I haven't yet looked into that fully yet as I believe "Wine" is the way to make at least some run. As I said, I need to look a bit deeper, and if Microsoft go any further it will become a priority.

I have always been partial to Pc Linux and never had time to really sit with it as I use the live-cd for data removal mostly.
In the past when I had dual boot situations when I had a bench machine, it seemed sooner or later the Linux partition always either disappeared or became corrupted and I never had the time to really learn it for that reason.

i have played with Ubuntu and also Mint in the past on an older laptop I had. I quite liked the UI of Mint, however it was only to just see what the fuss was about so didn't get too deep into it at the time.

I have an older Compaq Laptop with a Athlon XP 1700+M and was going to put ubuntu on it and re-familiarize myself with it, but lent the power cord to a friend and of course, never got it back.

Ubuntu is actually a Debian-based Linux.

I enjoyed Ubuntu just could not get it to not blow itself away as a second bootable and of course when I needed it the most it was nowhere to be seen.

I could get it to dual boot with windows no problem, it was removing Ubuntu when all boot hell would happen. Ever since that happened I haven't tried again.

It would dual boot for me until Ubuntu completely disappeared.

No Windows booted fine, that was what confounded me.
