Hi Guys. I run a Memory Scan from Here.
ORCA COMPUTER MEMORY (RAM), LAPTOP MEMORY (RAM) & PC MEMORY (RAM).
I have Windows XP Home SP3 and Windows7 RC.
My question looking at the results of the Scan,my Computer can use 4 GIG of RAM.
I have 2 GIG installed at the moment.
Would I see a noticeable difference, adding 2 GIG more of Ram?
    Thanks.:)

I like to go to the Task Manager > Performance Tab and note the Peak Commit Charge. If it's less than the installed memory, I don't think you'll see a speed bump by bumping your memory.

    Thanks for replying Dragnet.
Not sure how to read this.
    It's a bit out of my league.
I know the current Memory is 2048MB.
This is the image with SAS running.
Didn't want to invest in more sticks if virtually no benefit.
Can you decipher for me please? Thanks.

Dougie your peak is below the 1gig but not by much. What were you doing when you snagged that screenshot? Close everything except CHF and do one more please.

I misspoke you have 2 gigs of RAM so your peak is not close. I was assuming 1.

It all looks fine to me Dougie, if I had noticed that you were scanning with SAS when you took the original screenshot I probably would not have asked for a second one. The 48% CPU usage concerned me.

Of course you may still want to wait for a hardware expert to weigh in but I certainly would not spend any more money on RAM.

I agree with BeeCeeBee - you're not using the RAM that's already installed. No need to add RAM at this time. Do you feel some sluggishness in your machine that lead to your original question?

    And Thankyou Dragnet as well.
    Just trying to tweak things.

Also, your mobo has 4 slots, but win XP will only detect and use around 3GB of RAM anyway, so if you installed 4 and mainly used XP, you wouldn't notice much change between 2-3 anyway.

Hi Dragnet.Yes I am having sluggishness problems, which I am trying to pin point.
Runs very fast, and all of a sudden,it slows to near Dial up.
Then for no reason, that I can see, it is back to normal again.
When it slows all of a sudden,I immediately open Task Manager, and check.
I normally have about 39 processes running.
I check the CPU usage, and may only be 1-10%, when it runs like a dog.
I quickly do an Internet speed check, and it's normal, around 5 MEGS which is normal.
I check all temps and they are average.
There is nothing running in the background, when the slowness occurs.
I clear the cashe, reboot and still the same.
Then for no reason it is fast again.Happens about 10 times in my usual 16 hr daily usage.
Thats why I thought maybe more Ram may help, but as everyone has said,it is not needed.
Thanks DirtyPolo.I will stay with 2 GIGS till I start using Windows7 full time.

It sounds like you are talking about a slowdown during browsing, is that correct?

If so, the problem may well be with your ISP and not your computer. The fact that you are getting a normal speed check is not necessarily a sign that all is well with the server.

Yes Barry,a slowdown whilst Browsing, loading of pages.
Funny thing. My wife, on her Computer, is not experiencing any slowdowns,
at the time, my Computer slows.
They are near identical in Builds.
We compare loading times, and normally almost the same.
    Average 1-3 seconds.
When mine slows maybe up to 13 Seconds, to load the same page.
Guess, I will have to live this annoyance,as I can't see anything obvious.:)

Have you looked at your page file settings to see if they are consistent with your RAM. It should read about 1 1/2 times your RAM.

Ok that is clearly not right. It should be closer to 3000. Go to "Change" and set the minimum to 3000. You can set the max to 4000 and see if that helps at all. There remains the issue as to why it was only set to 2000 but we will let that slide for a bit if this seems to solve the problem.

It may be that you have set it manually once before which would account for the incorrect number. This would have happened if you have increased your RAM to 2 gigs after having manually set the page file while you had 1 gig.

Normally page file is set and managed by windows.

Yes Dougie just leave the other drives. Let see if this corrects the problem.
