I just got a notice that Macrium Reflect Free is being retired. I do not recall ever using it. Do I need to do anything? See uploaded file.

That's the software we recommend for creating images of your computer. You must have installed it at one time. If you're not using it, just ignore the message. Also, if you're not using it, you might as well uninstall it.

Actually I have forgotten how to use it if i ever did and cannot see it in any programs list. If I open C drive I see a folder called Program Data and in it I see a folder named Macrium . I recall downloading and updating it but honestly do not recall ever using it and if did I have forgotten how. Below image shows what is in the folder.

Is this a free program? I saw nothing about charges anywhere. I always had Macrium Free.

It looked free to me so I downloaded it anyway.
I believe I never used this for never could find a program opening icon anywhere and never had instructions on how to use it. Any idea where to find how to use it information? I recall installing all the updated but do not recall ever using it. Need a tutorial. Back then I was ordering all the free stuff.

Thanks. I am not sure I know why I would even WANT an image. I was in this free-mode where anything free I would go for, whether I used, understood it, needed it, or not.

To save a computer that has malware or a hard drive that died.
We currently use 4 Windows 7 computers: 2 desktops and 2 laptops. I make images of each about every 2 months.

We haven't had malware on any computers in more than 20 years but we have had things go strange after some Windows updates! Then I restore the image and block the update until MS gets the bugs out of the update.

If any computer would get infected, it is faster to restore the image when the computer was vermin free than to try and clean off the malware.
If, or let me say WHEN, the hd dies in any of the computers, I just pop in a new hd, restore the newest image and I am ready to use the computer.

Don't fill your computer with programs just because they are free. That's bad in two ways: junk (and sometimes malware) can be added to ride along with the "free" program and you fill your hd with things you don't ever use. Not everything free out there is a good program.

When I have a need for something (lately it was splitting pdfs into parts to remove pages I didn't want), I look around to see if there is a free program that will do what I want. Then I read reviews. I'll try a few that get good reviews and finally decide which one I want and uninstall all the ones I don't want.
