I installed a C110 Logitech Webcam on my Acer Aspire 4720 laptop, running Vista Home.
It worked the first few times I tried it, then didn't light up or capture sound. I uninstalled the software. It did not completely uninstall. I still have an icon on the desktop, when I click it, the box opens and is blank, heading says Logitech Master Installer. When I tried to uninstall it again, the program did not uninstall, just kept running the hard drive. The Logitech Master Installer box will not close, the red X lights up but does not close box. I get a message box titled MSetup, Red X, with message, "an invalid argument was encountered" That MSetup box will close, but I'm forced to shut down my laptop with this open, as it will not close. I tried to restore back to day before I installed the software, and got a message that my system will not restore. Have tried to call company, cannot get through. Have sent detailed email, no answer. Any help or ideas will be appreciated. I would like to use this webcam for skype.

My suggestion is to first install Revo Uninstaller. You only need the freeware version which you will find at the bottom of this page: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html.

After that I would reinstall the logitech software and then unintall it using Revo. Do a full uninstall and OK all the registry changes it suggests once the uninstall is complete.

Try this link. Scroll down to bottom and download free version..
    http://www.revounins...e_download.html

From my research the Acer Aspire 4720 laptop comes with a built in Webcam and Mic.
Why are you trying to install a third Party Webcam?

There is no webcam here, only microphone, how odd is that?

    Try this.
Plug your logitech webcam into a different port on your laptop.
Go into Device manager and expand "Sound Video and Game controllers"
Start > Right click on "My Computer" > Select "Manage" > Open Device manager > Look for "Sound Video and Game Controllers"
See if Logitech webcam is recognized.
If so click on it and update drivers, wait and let Windows find the Drivers.

Device mgr. informs me that the device is working properly, latest driver is installed. When I attempted to uninstall the software, it did not remove both icons from desktop. The one still showing opens to quick capture and webcam gallery. They do not work. Strangely enough, the preferences tab does. Help also not working. Thanks for the suggestions.

There was no need to uninstall if the device is installed and working properly.
Repeat Post 7 and DON'T uninstall.
Then we will get Skype to recognize the webcam.

I am a bit concerned about your inability to complete basic tasks like installing Revo. While that may have nothing to do with solving your camera issue specifically I am wondering what other problems you may be encountering.

Back to Revo. You say it "doesn't complete." Do you mean that the installation doesn't complete or that it doesn't complete the uninstall of the camera software?

Acer 4720 is a series not a specific model. Look at the sticker on the bottom of the laptop and give us the specific model number please.

1- software was not and is not working, "quick capture" and "webcam gallery" buttons depress but don't open on screen, light on camera does not come on. reason I uninstalled it.
2-Acer Aspire 4720Z is the laptop, manual clearly shows where the mic and camera port are on lid, camera not there, it is "on select models" , apparently this is not one of the select models, I see the mic icon, no camera icon or hole for lens.
3- Revo did install, and was run, did not complete removal of software after 30 minutes. It looked to be 5/6 complete when "Logitech Master Installer screen came on, blank, then "MSetup" inside it with message, "redX- and invalid argument was encountered". the MSetup will close, Logitech Master Installer screen will not.
I don't appreciate your post comment stating your concern of my inability to do simple tasks. I did install the software and ran it, if I was incorrect in how I describe the problems, put that down to my lack of knowledge, like you possess. If I know how to fix this myself, like the other members, I would not need to post here. Thanks for all the help.

I was referring to your computer's inability to perform basic tasks not you personally. I apologize if you read it differently but I agree that it was poorly phrased.

I still do not understand why it is not uninstalling and remain concerned that more than the webcam is the issue. I would try to perform a system restore to a date prior to the initial installation of the webcam software and see if the computer is operating normally. If you need instructions as to how to perform a system restore just let us know. (That is not a reflection on you more that I have never used vista and would need to make certain that the steps are the same. :) )

when I attempted to uninstall Logitech, I duly noted date of install. I have tried to restore to day before that install. Computer would not restore. Cannot remember what the message was, did not write it down. I have used the problems reports and solutions in control panel to identify problems. it tells me there aren't any. I have questions about those too. will post elsewhere to ask. It apprears that Logitech has it's own install program, and was possibly corrupted, that being the reason for this problem. It worked once after initial install, then camera would not capture voice, and light on camera face did not come on, reason for uninstall, it did not remove both program icons. Some one else has been using this laptop, I suspect a little of snooping, could have caused me some problems, which I have yet to identify. I'm more familiar with XP, so am still learning what programs are here, and how to use them. Particularly problem solving programs. thanks again for all your suggestions.

Failure to get system restore to work is one indication of a malware infection. There are trojans that deliberately eliminate restore points. Is it possible that the other person may have been downloading something that you are not aware of or surfing to some dangerous sites, opening email attachments?

One more thing. In re reading your post about Revo failing to uninstall, you did not say whether you reinstalled the software before using Revo. You have to do that because your previous attempt to uninstall would have removed the logitech built in uninstaller. Revo makes use of that first and then goes on to find remnants that were left over. So install the logitech software again and then uninstall it using Revo.

I would also run a full scan using Malwarebytes. If you do not have it installed you can find it here: http://download.cnet...;contentBody;1d

The free version will suit you fine for these purposes just be sure not to allow any of the toolbars or other addons it may suggest. Let us know what, if anything, it finds.

I can't see where I typed that Revo did not install, it DID install, it did not complete the uninstall. I tried to re-install the Logitech software, it will not install. After using Revo.
When running Revo, the progress bar got 5/6 of the way across, after 30 minutes, it had not completed, and the Logitech master installer screen, with msetup with message came on.
    cannot re-install Logitech
cannot un-install Logitech with Revo or windows
cannot restore, didn't write down message for that fiasco.
Checked history on nephews use, no alarms there.
will run malwarebytes, have it installed already
thanks of much for your time and help

Have just installed Malwarebytes, which was updated. I have many errors. It removed 100, leaving 523 errors. 77 are software errors. I cannot afford to pay for a program, am unemployed. Have no income. The status is yellow-junk status, whatever that means. the program informed me that I had no problems in memory dumps, shortcuts, or taskbar.
start up section 1 active X & com 114 application paths 2 recent documents 2 file types 24
shared files 9 history list 5 recycle bin 4 temporary files 1367
the logitech icon is still on desktop, opens, recognizes camera, light on camera not on, quick capture still not working, nor webcam gallery.
I checked system properties before running malwarebytes.
pqservice no restore point acer(c:) 11/19/2011 restore point data (d:) no restore point
I have no idea what to do next. It seems funny that when I checked in control panel, problem reports and solutions, it has no problems to report. If I go whole hog and reinstall the os, what if I don't have sp1? will sp2 install from microsoft? Will it do any good to try that? I have recovery disc, not original copy of vista. elcheapo. Is there a way to find out if I have sp1 on my system that is also on recovery disc? Thanks for all the help.

Malwarebytes is free, you don't have to pay for it, anyway with a lot of problems found (I thought it was Objects Infected? unless that is what you meant), anyway the next thing you should do is to continue this in the Malware forum here.

I should be able to move this post and create a new topic for you in the Malware forum Posts moved and new topic created, if you could run a Full Scan on Malwarebytes again and post the results from the notepad window that pops up after the scan and reply to the new thread, then someone will be along to help you with removing any viruses.

EDIT: Thread was split temporarily and posts moved to the Malware Removal forum, posts have now been merged back into this thread.
