    Current specs:
    -pentium b960
    -500 gb hdd
    -4 gb ddr3, 1600 Mhz (I have a feeling this is under-clocked in laptop) (1 slot available)

Many websites have different accounts in regards to the laptop's maximum memory, I couldn't even find a page on lenovo's site... I know the b960 supports 16 gbs of ram, but will my mobo support it?

    Welcome to CHF Corex40,

You actually have two DIMM slots, the second slot is located under the keyboard.
Each slot should hold up to an 8 GB stick.

I know, thanks for the quick reply. So I could leave a 4 gb in, and put an 8 gb in the other, right?

It's always best to use matched sets of RAM. (Same size, speed and manufacturer)

I'll try to find 2 8 gbs. What effect would using two different sticks of ram have on a computer?

Hi, to clarify, unmatched sticks of RAM can have many different results, from perfectly OK right down to a refusal to boot. I have seen in the case of four smaller sticks in a desktop, one of which was not a full match, the system refused to see that one, but still worked OK. but with that amount of RAM not recognised or used.
As a general rule though the speed is important as with any system holding more than one stick, if one is slower speed, the others, although can be faster, will be forced to run at the same slow speed.
Always best though to have them matched as then you have the peace of mind that it will run OK.

    Nev.
