I cannot get my laptop to recognize the wi fi router. It show in the file portion, but when I look for networks, it says none are in range. I know it is within range because I can sit it next to another laptop and that laptop picks it up as well as my wireless printer which is sitting next to the laptop. Also, on the desktop, the computer folder is highlighted, and I cannot click on any other folder on desktop, without using the arrow keys on keypad. If I put my curser on another folder on desktop, and click it, it opens the computer folder , just like it is stuck on computer folder. after I move it with the arrow key. then I can open the other folder as usual. I know this is a tow question post, but need help on both. Thanks in advance

Could you please confirm which operating system you are using please?

Also...try resetting your router. If it doesn't have a reset button, then unplug it from the electrical supply for a minute or so.

Since your post is in the Windows 8 forum I assume that that is the OS in question.

Just curious as to your solution. Did you turn on network discovery?

I have Windows 8 on my new desktop, but was helping a friend with his Acer Aspire. I found a tab in the tray at bottom right corner of laptop that I had to check that said "web enabled", or words too that effect.
    Thanks for replies.
