(CNN) -- The outrage came hard and fast after a 3-year-old girl badly scarred and wearing an eye patch because of a pit bull attack was apparently asked to leave a KFC restaurant because her appearance upset other customers.

After social media users opened fire on the restaurant, calling for a boycott, the apology from the chain came quickly too.

The company said it will donate $30,000 to assist with the girl's medical bills.

"The entire KFC family is behind Victoria," company spokesman Rich Maynard said.

'Her face is disrupting our customers'

Victoria Wilcher was mauled by three pit bulls a few months ago, causing her to need regular medical treatment. After a doctor's visit last week, grandmother Kelly Mullins took the child to a KFC in Jackson, Mississippi.

"I ordered a large sweet tea and her some mashed potatoes and gravy because she was hungry," Mullins told CNN affiliate WAPT.

"She was on a feeding tube at the time, but I figured she could just swallow (the potatoes). They just told us, they said, 'We have to ask you to leave because her face is disrupting our customers.' (Victoria) understood exactly what they said."

Victoria cried all the way home, Mullins said.

"She's got a lot of surgeries to go through and she won't even look in the mirror anymore," Mullins told WAPT. "When we go to a store, she doesn't even want to get out (of the car). She's 3 years old and she's embarrassed about what she looks like. She's embarrassed and I hate it because she shouldn't be. It ain't her fault.

I have never heard of such an awful and insensitive thing for someone to do to anyone,
especially a three year old child. Shame on Kentucky Fried Chicken! This poor child is
already scarred for life physically, why don't you just scar her emotionally to make the
    devastation complete.

Poor child, I am also disgusted at the KFC manager and staff for doing that.
However, that child shouldn't be in that condition in the first place, it is because of that breed of dog, plus of course the so called macho owners that breed and train these animals to be aggressive, that they are a banned species in the UK. Unfortunately it is easy to put down a known aggressive dog and ban the breed, I wish it was as simple for the moron owners too.

Nev, funny you got into the breed because Cindy and I pm'd ourselves about the same thing but decided not to go there. Truthfully I felt like a coward so I am glad you said that.
I have been to many dog parks here in Pa and also around the country and honestly I have seen more nasty fights with Pit Bulls than any other breed though mostly Pit mixes I have to add. As an ex pro trainer my biggest problem is that that breed wasn't around when I was training but my observation and readings show me the Pit Bull is one of the stupidest animals and where that comes into play is it makes their behavior unpredictable. Add in the poor training and breeding as well as what the buyers are trying to purchase (wish fulfillment) and we find our dog pounds literally filled with unwanted Pit Bulls. Of course I have seen some super sweet ones but the majority well it is becoming a real problem in this country. Consult any insurance company and many exclusions for homeowners policies the Pit Bull is at the head of the list for being uninsurable and why anyone with children would buy one or allow their children near one to me, is a reason to remove the child from the home sorry to say.

Probably just a jerk reaction from an insensitive manager. He'll likely lose his job. At the very least he should take some management classes learning about not over-reacting and take your time before you make a decision that could hurt a company.
