    Wouldn't over-think it.

As I see it -you have two choices.

    1) Download the patch for your operating system and install it.
    2) Right-click, hide, move on.

    According the the article,
    , and the
information you provided about your OS (the corrected or original
information - either work for this); you would download from the following
    link:

I would call the notification you are seeing a mistake. After all - look at
the link i just gave you for downloading/installing the given patch
manually. It says, "Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista; Windows
Vista Service Pack 1; Windows Vista Service Pack 2" --> you qualify/should
    likely install it.

In the end - it's up to you though.

LOL. There are a number of reasons why the message appeared. Don't worry
about the page not detecting that the system is running Vista. Be happy
it didn't detect it as a Mac. <g>

    From the Security Advisory page:

" The update itself does not directly provide protection against
specific attacks such as credential forwarding, but allows applications
to opt-in to Extended Protection for Authentication. This advisory
briefs developers and system administrators on this new functionality
and how it can be deployed to help protect authentication credentials. "

If your *not* a developer or a sys admin, I see no harm in hiding the
    update and forgetting about it.
It's strictly for developers and sys admins. It should never have been
pushed out via automatic updating to millions of Typical Home Users who
have no inclination to edit the registry so that the update's protection
    is enabled.

I think I more or less agree it being a mistake. Looking at your link I see
it does say for my OS-- but -- if the click that KB968389 in the download
section, it goes to that article with the ! reference again. <!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->

I think I'll hide it. Especially after reading Mow Green's reply below.
    Thanks so much.

It is networked but a stand alone work station at work. I am the IT for my
    own computer. LOL.

Thank you. I had a feeling something just wasn't quite right. I am not a
sys admin or a developer.....really. lol. Like Shenan Stanley said above,
a "mistake". I like that. MS? Noooo. I will hide it.

Thanks so much for your reply.
