Well with a recent resignation it is now official that everyone involved with the deign and release of Windows 8 is now gonefrom Microsoft and it appears to admit that future directions will involve updates but no more drastic changes are in store.

I know for me I can stop looking at Apple and Linux versions and plotting my exodus from Windows and it feels good to know.

The change from Windows7 to Windows8 was too drastic IMO
They literally forgot about the millions of users with Desktops, companies and private.
Can't wait for Windows8.2 to arrive.

Being still with Windows 7 and not yet tried Windows 8 or 8.1, I can only give an opinion from that stand point, which isn't going to be much
However I think the big mistake was in creating an operating system that from what I have heard is ideal for tablet or mobile devices, yet insisting it would still be OK for desktops and larger laptops.
If they wanted to move forward with a new system after the massive success of Windows 7, they should have created a separate system for desktops as well as the one for mobiles. Also a lot too early as Windows 7 is a long way to go before that becomes past its sell by date.
Just my opinion from the sidelines as it were.

Yeah I have Windows 8 on one desktop so I could keep up with it but I must admit I do my important work on my Windows 7 desktop and much prefer it.

Same here. I use Windows7 full time and only open Windows8 to help members with that OS.

Same here.... I make a concerted effort to boot my Win 8 desktop once a week just to stay current.

I'm happy with Windows 8.1. used on my Desktop computer with a keyboard and mouse. I was also very happy with Windows 7 doing the same. I think I must be either easily pleased or very adaptable. :)

Love it Hetzer. I had a client who got annoyed with me for adding normal start menu and boot to desktop because she has to shut off her laptop at work to stop people from using it because they could not figure out how to use it the other way.

Been reading this for 2 months that when the 8.2 Update comes out it will do everything mentioned here. It couldn't happen soon enough for me.

from the first time I looked at win8, I thought great if you have a touch screen, not having a touch screen, and Android offering best value for money on mobile devices, and the British Goverment taking offence at me having spare cash in my pocket, Ive never aquired a copy.

Well that's the thing I have a touch screen laptop and a touch screen all-in-one and I still hate it. What I find is I seldom use the touch ability because after I do I am cleaning the screens like crazy. You can't be a "neatnik" and use a touch screen.

I rebuilt an IBM ThinkPad with a touch screen last year for my husband's birthday.
I installed Windows 8 on it for him. He doesn't really like it. I know this because he
only brings it out about once a month when he thinks I'm looking.... I think he's afraid
he will hurt my feelings. LOL :jump:
