I have used both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, and much prefer 8.1 because of more options to control the Windows Updates.

I am looking at buying a custom desktop PC and the store salesman said that Windows 8.1 is not compatible with the latest motherboards.
His exact wording was, "With the new mainboards they do not support anything less than Windows 10."

I am looking at getting a
Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
    or the Z270.
Is this true, or is he just too lazy to source a copy of Windows 8.1?
