When I upgraded the fastest laptop I have ever seen to Windows 10, my Sony Touch Screen with Gen4 Intel 1-5, and 16 gb 1600 Ddr3 ram, it ran slower than most netbooks I have seen. I had some "smart remarks" from a few that I should learn how to set it up for Windows 10 which I viewed as the jokethe comments were. But I started thinking about it.

This morning I received the following e-mail from NTi so assuming an ad reflects a solution to an experience to produce sales, obviously there is such a problem if someone devises software to deal with it?

    Dear Rich,

After a free upgrade to Windows 10, many users complain of slower performance. If you have the same problem, our suggestion is to upgrade your HDD, which is one of the few upgrades that won’t break your budget and better yet, you can actually do it yourself. With our migration software title Echo, the process has become incredibly easy, we’ve made a video to show you how to do it:

And here’s where it gets even better: we’ve lowered the price of Echo just for you. From now until the end of this month, you can enjoy a great deal while getting a great tool!

    Yours Helpfully,
    NTI Customer Support Team

    Never heard of NTI.

I have an older Dell laptop which came with W7. I then installed W8 and noticed that it was a bit faster. It now has W10 (via an inplace upgrade). I haven't noticed a difference in speed.

It looks to me as if someone is just trying to push their software.

If so then did they make up the problem out of thin air? Of course they are trying to push their product I would to my point is there must be a problem or no one would buy the solution so why bother?

Tony NTI is probably the oldest and possibly first of the major backup software providers in the market. They were here prior to Ghost which is gone, Power Quest which Symantec bought and killed and way earlier than Acronis who is the new "kid on the block". They were always concentrating on the cd-dvd uses for backup and were late comers to the use of external and internal hard drives but even then they did so while Acronis was still in diapers. Many of their products worked with Windows 95 and 98 originally and actually they are a really reliable backup company we should talk about more. The concept of "synch" vs scheduling actually was their claim to fame in the evolving of file and data backup and was where they stood alone with a product called "Shadow Copy" for many many years, now simply called "Shadow".

Companies try to push optimizer software as well as registry cleaners all of the time.
That doesn't mean that the software is actually needed.

Besides, all it is, is a cloning software.

My machine is actually faster with 10 on it. I haven't noticed any slowdowns myself.

I was running 8.1. Windows 10 is optimized to run on SSD drives more so than mechanical drives.

They have improved the features that optimize SSD drives much like 8.1 did. I just notice things are faster now as I use my PC all day long so I would notice the improvements.

Clicking on Optimize takes you to the app that executes Trim for SSD's.

I've noticed that on the Windows 7 machines I've installed SSD's on Trim was enabled when I went to check it. Must be the default.

How can you compare cloning software with scummy optimizing programs? Give me a break obviously people have been complaining about system being slower
moving to Windows 10 or there would be no market. I had 2 pcs do it. You can ask anyone if they want to optimize their system and they would say yes, that is a different world.
I just had a slow Win 10 call this today and didn't realize that an Upgrade of the OS returns even "startup" settings to everything allowed, in spite of Win Patrol being on the system.
So even a system well setup starts again from scratch so to speak. In the past I never really did upgrades of OS so am not terribly familiar with what they do. I had thought that old settings remained and I also noticed System Restore points from the past were removed as well and I don't know how William's theory of using System Restore to return to earlier Windows version would work that way either.

Trim has been on by default for many years now Tony regardless of OS in Ssd drives. In fact it was only the very early issues that did not have it.

I had read that that was one of the reasons for Windows 10 and they were trying to accomplish that, I just didn't realize they had done it.
