    Hi,

I hate to take the time to use a password every time I boot my Windows 8. I know it can be bypassed, but is it safe? There are NO people around my house who will get into my computer, but can a hacker more easily hack if it is not password protected???? I have never used a password on XP, Vista, or 7, so hope it is not necessary on 8.

    Thanks.

As far as an outsider getting into your computer, which only happens through either direct access because you don't have a firewall, or through the use of certain types of malware or virus. In those circumstances a password is no barrier to them any way. Password protection is mainly to protect your data should someone physically be sat in front of your computer when you don't want them to see your stuff.
If there is no risk of others getting that far, then no a password is not really needed.

As Nev says hacking into the pc bypasses the Windows password but they have to crack the network password is all and of course again the pc must be on as well.
That is one of the main reasons I never leave pc on when asleep or when I leave the house. The other reasons have to do with wear.

Thanks....I will attempt to bypass the password.

I alternate from leaving computers on and turning them to just sleep. Probably best to turn them off at night though. Saves some electricity, too.
