Internet Explorer Won't Connect To Network

Hope Im posting in the right place. while using internet, Internet explorer message came up saying "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage", I clikcked on "diagnose problem" and message came up saying "ca.yahoo.com is not set upto establis a connection on port "world wide web service http with this computer", I have shut down computer, run system scan with norton, did a system restore, nothing working so far.

any suggestions? the other computer in my house is working fine

 

If you have a router is it set to pass through DNS servers?
Is your connection set to obtain DNS servers automatically?

To verify that you have a DNS problem:
open a DOS window - click on Run and type CMD
Enter ping yahoo.com
If you get any returns then the DNS servers are OK
if you get connection timed out try ping 206.190.60.37
if you get replies - you have a DNS server problem
If no replies you are not connected to the Internet

I'm assuming that the other computer in your house is on the same internet connection? There may be a conflict between your anti virus program and IE.
Do you have Norton installed on your computer?

Can you connect with another browser....Firefox, Chrome, etc.

One thing you can try is running Internet Explorer with no add ons.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

 

tried this and got replies, any idea what I do from here???

Open your browser and type http://74.125.79.147/ in the address bar then press enter. Has Google loaded?
If that ip address dosnt work, Open a Command Prompt and type ping google.com and press Enter. Do not add the www. you should then see googles Ip address, substitute that number in stead of the one I gave you.

Now try this, I dont know which version of Windows you have so if this dosnt match your machine just post back with your Windows version.

Open Network Connections
Double click on Local Area Connection
Click on 'Properties'
Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click Properties.
Click the button 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.

OK your way out and test your connection.
