Just one of a few reasons Firefox 5.0 is my default browser.

    Thanks

I believe that the security issue raised late last year has been addressed by a patch (update) for IE 8 (I am not sure about 7 but I would guess so )

As for advice from a "tech," there are as many preferences for browsers are there are people giving advice. I have IE9 installed and have had no issues with it. On the other hand it is not my default browser and is generally only for certain business sites that are still in the middle ages.

If this fellow who gave you advice also gave you a reason then perhaps we could address that. Normally when we give recommendations here it generally includes a reason for the preference.

This is not meant as an endorsement of IE9, and speaks more to anonymous techs who give advice but do not support it.

That is better left to someone who uses IE as a default browser. As i said I hardly ever use it but do have IE9 installed.

What does concern me is that, if I recall correctly, IE9 was listed as an important update for W7. Now that does not mean that it is really all that important and there are ways to not only refuse the specific download but also to hide it so it does not reappear. However,I believe that unless you do those few things it will download automatically. Again that is from memory.

It does lead me to wonder whether you are getting all the updates that you should be for Windows 7

    automatically.

THE only ones that it doesnt do
is IE9 and there is only one
thats because , its back to IE 8, I assume.
    thanks,

    love

What you need to do is go to the windows updates in your control panel and if it is showing any important updates make certain that IE9 is not listed. If it is you can make certain that the box is not checked. Then you can right click on it and select to hide the update. If it remains it will be grayed out and not download until you "unhide" it.

Of course that does not mean that there is anything wrong with IE9.

I set Firefox to look just like IE (perhaps one of the nice peoples here can tell you how to do that better than I could), then it's just a matter of allowing the updates to Firefox when they occur. Currently that is version 5.0.

    Thanks

Yeah what Match said[IMG], but really I would suggest you keep upto date with Firefox, currently only versions 3.6 & 5 are supported - http://en.wikipedia....Release_history

With that new speedier release strategy of Google's Chrome that Mozilla are trying to mimic (a stable release every 6 weeks is what Mozilla have targeted I think?), it means they will start to only support the current stable release and upwards i.e. Firefox 5-8. I guess Firefox 3.6 is only being supported because of Corporate users. Firefox 6 went into beta a few days ago and is due for the Stable release around the end of August.

Personally I use Chrome, I don't buy this Google privacy thing that is mentioned around the web when in effect anything you enter on the web is public to a point so I couldn't really care if Google knows what I'm searching, so does Microsoft and Yahoo if you use those search engines and products etc, as long as I'm using something that is easy to use and is quick (plus obviously is produced by a known company) I won't complain.
I moved over from Firefox a couple of years ago (I wasn't very attached to Add-Ons so the switch was easy) and haven't looked back since, the auto updates and Sync features for bookmarks, web apps, extensions, accounts & passwords etc (as well as the speed obviously) are what keep me using Chrome.

Browser choice is really very personal Kayrose. As long as you select one that works for you and is a good recognized safe browser, just stick with it!

Nah I wasn't suggesting Chrome, just my own reasons for using it, what I was suggesting was you need to try keep up with Mozilla's updates to Firefox because they are dropping support for older versions more quickly now than in the past with the quicker release cycle Mozilla is using for Firefox.

I think Mozilla pushes an Update prompt to Firefox users when there is a new release, you might have seen a prompt, they might have not shown them again if you clicked no (or whatever the option is) or just closed the prompt window since they don't force automatic updates like Google does with Chrome, Mozilla just use a prompt to inform you a new version has been released, but you haven't said your exact Firefox version I can only assume it is a 3.x branch, probably either 3.5 or 3.6?

If it's 3.5 which is no longer supported (from the Wiki link I put in post 14 of this thread) you really could do with updating to the latest stable version i.e. Firefox 5, if it's 3.6 you have a bit of time probably until Firefox 6/7 is released (about 5 weeks time and 11 weeks time respectively I think?) or whenever Mozilla stop support, I've not read an exact date anywhere on a quick search.

I suspect your wary of Add-On support? Or is it just the new updated interface in Firefox 4 and above?
