I was trying to use Zoom twice last week and the person on the other end could not hear me, we could see each other and I could hear them. I also experimented with Skype with a friend, same, they could not hear me. I've tried different settings within those programs and the computer settings but no luck. Can anyone help, I have an interview on Tuesday online. Thanks.

    Hello and Welcome Lori,
It looks like you're using Windows 10. I'll assume you have a laptop with a microphone.

Because your mic is not working neither both Zoom nor Skype, it's probably a configuration problem.

Right click the speaker icon in your taskbar and go to Open Sound Settings. From there scroll down to the Input section. Make sure your microphone is selected in the drop down menu. While you're in there, you can test the mic by talking. The bar below the Test your microphone should move to the right as you speak. If it doesn't, click on the Troubleshoot button and follow the prompts.

Here is a sample of what you should see.

Thanks, no I have desktop PC. I tested it by talking and it did act like it was working. Here is picture, is this the right setting, Lenovo USB Microphone, I don't have any microphone plugged into the USB though. Sending Photo. This test worked the other day and Skype still would not work.

If you talked and the little bar under 'Test your microphone' responded then the computer is 'seeing' the mic. So you have to look at settings in your Zoom and Skype app.

btw: It looks like you've given us conflicting information. You stated that the computer responded and that you're using a USB mic. Then you said you don't have any microphone plugged into the USB. Can you clarify what's going on?

Go to your Zoom app and look under the Settings icon. It looks like a gear.
Click on Audio. Make sure your mic is selected in the Microphone drop down menu. Test it there as you did in the computer Settings page.

Maybe your monitor has a built in mic. What’s the make & model of your video monitor?
