I guess it was bothering me that I had gone back to two Windows 7 and one Windows 8.1 pcs when the going OS is Windows 10. Well even though I hate Windows 10, its where things are at right now. So I took my newest desktop system, the i-5 3570 with 16 Gb ram, 250 Ssd drive and 1 Tb hybrid hard drive which I installed Windows clean about a month ago and tried the Update route one more time. Since the system is new and the install was only done a week ago I figured if I ever could get an Upgrade to work this would be the one and I was right.

The Upgrade took about 20 minutes and came through with no issues I can see. I had to reinstall Emsisoft AntiMalware after uninstalling it because it could not see the internet and register and then I remembered reading at the Emsisoft site if you do the upgrade you may have to do that. But that was my only issue. Paltalk worked right away and all other programs so far are functioning. I did install Classic Shell rather than waste time removing everything from the Start Menu and replacing what I wanted there.

Remember though the newness of this system and lack of any issues is why the Upgrade worked!

Good for you. I use 10 as my main OS (still use Windows 7 as well) because I feel like need to know it better than anyone else around me as far as I am concerned - that is just how I am I challenge myself like that. I like 7 better, much better, but windows 10 is ok once you get the privacy in order. Other than privacy, and the IU, and where the control of things are now (more in settings that the actual control panel) it's pretty similar in most respects. I don't like edge, I continue to use IE. I hear from a reliable source that IU changes are coming, some privacy changes, and drag and drop for edge. I think when those things happen the operating system will be much more accepted than it is now.

I agree and I feel we have an obligation as techs to say what we feel but since 10 isn't going anywhere we have to at least be familiar with it. I would not use my main pc for it though.

It's not any different from Windows 7 once you have trimmed the menu, and the privacy. Sad that we have to do that though.

Hey Will! Here are my thoughts my fiend. If the privacy will help protect me and my loved ones from terrorists; it is a good thing . If MS is using it for any thing else, then I hope they rot in Hell. I don't understand trimmed the menu. Can you please explain?

Dougie I think William means addin the Classic Shell or remove everything from the start menu and replace it with what we really need there. It is a shame Microsoft still has not gotten the message of what users want. Maybe they are as incompetent as our legislators and President?

I know Dougie. I don't know why MS is collecting all that information. It just doesn't bother me that much.
We have no privacy any more, so we might as well get used to it. We can gripe about it and probably we should; but the days when I grew up, where no one locked there doors and we didn't have 24/7 news coverage that covers mostly negative crap are gone.

This Sunday I'm going to give it another try. I probably screwed too much with it and made it unstable the first time.

I believe you either have to do a clean install or have a relatively new earlier Windows install that has no issues to see it work
    right as an upgrade.
