Hey guys, I am working on this laptop. At first it powers up and goes to desktop. I then tried pressing the F10 at startup to get to the boot menu so I can choose the win10 USB but it led me to a "Rescue" screen so I chose that option but then the screen went blank and now when pressing the power button it just stays lit and no screen, help please?

Pull the USB drive and see if it boots normally. If you get it working again, you may need to get to the BIOS and get out of Secure boot and into Legacy boot.

No, same deal, the power light comes on and stays on but no screen. There is side switch for the Assist button and I think that switch has something to do with this.

Have you tried using the Assist button to launch the recovery, Mike?

Yes but I think the main issue here is the screen went from very dim [the way I got it] to now all black. The pc stays on as I can hear it silently running and nothing is even warm so no major overheating I think. I tried connecting to an external monitor then pressing fn+f7 [not sure if those are the correct keys] but no screen.

If you never see anything on the screen (it should show boot options) when powered on from cold, then the onboard video chip has died.
Leads me to think that the video chip was on the way out.
Since an external monitor doesn't seem to show anything at all, it is probably not a laptop screen problem.

If that is the case you probably have three expensive options: desolder the video chip and solder a new one on. replace the motherboard with the exact model, if you can find one or buy an external video card.
Another option and probably the best, based on the age of the laptop, is to save money and get a new laptop.
