With previous versions of Windows most of us became accustomed to tapping the F8 key to get into the Advanced Startup Options screen. This screen included amongst other options, starting your computer in Safe Mode , and Safe Mode with networking .

For users of Windows 8 there are a number of ways to enter Safe Mode. The steps given below show how to enter this screen from a Desktop/Laptop computer (Via Keyboard) that is already running, or that can be booted in the normal way.

Open the Settings Charm/Dialogue by pressing the Windows key plus i... Win key + I
Left click Change PC Settings
Left click on General from the given list.
Scroll down to Advanced Startup and left click Restart Now .
Left click Troubleshoot .
Left click Advanced Options .
Left click Startup Settings .
Left click Restart .

From the numbered options (See image below) choose the option you need by pressing the number on your keyboard.
FOR EXAMPLE
Pressing number 5 will result in your computer booting into
<span style="color:#0000ff; Safe Mode With Networking

Is there still a way to boot to the advanced boot options menu? Does F8 still work?

See, that is what I don't like about Win 8, it seems you have to go through so many steps to get an end result. With Win 7 you can get there in a heartbeat. Sorry, I could be wrong, but it doesn't appear to be that user friendly.

The normal tapping F8 doesn't work on Windows 8.
There are 6 recognized ways of bringing up "Advanced Boot" options that I am aware of.
Some very involved and requiring a lot of Key strokes.

By far the most simple way I have found is to start Windows8.

Open the charms Bar on the right in the Metro/ Start page.
Select "Settings" > "Power" > Select "Restart" while holding down the "Shift" Key till Windows 8 reboots.
Your "Advanced Boot" options are now on screen.
Very handy if your running Dual or Triple Boot.

What I think we need to know is how to get to the advanced boot options if there is a failure to to boot? So if W8 fails to boot how does one get to safemode or other boot options.

If Windows8 fails to boot correctly twice or three times it will automatically display the "Advanced boot" options on the screen.
I don't think it is possible to cold boot into Safe Mode in Windows 8.
