Hi guys and gals. I hear a lot about how you change your W10 to be more like W7.
I personally have gotten use to W10 just like it came on the up grade and I like it.
I would be interested any changes you have made however, to make it more like W7, or any setting you change in privacy. I'm always ready to listen and learn!
This could be a learning experiencing for all CHF members!;)

Here's my desk top! Every thing I need is there! Yes there are a few tiles (W8.1). I could get rid of them, but I actually like them.
It's all there. I just don't understand what all the fuss is about. Is it better then W7. I'm still thinking about that. Probably not!
Why is MS forcing W10 on every one, I don't have a clue. Do I have trouble finding things. Not really. Is the graphics blaw. Yuppers they are, but that's no biggy for me. I bet MS will fix that soon. People always resist change. That's natural.
    These are my thoughts!

The only changes I made are to eliminate and close or disable most of the privacy settings that allowed Microsoft to access any private information on the computer. In addition to that I use Classic Shell in the Windows 7 version start menu or Stardock 10 as I own both.

Hi can you please post the privacy settings that you are disabling. Also would like to know more about Classic Shell in the start menu. What does it do?.
You say you own both, so these aren't freeware??
Screen shots would really be nice!;);)

I havent really gotten into windows 10 yet but I imagine it will be like w98, XP and 7 - once I got to using them and understanding them I like them fine. Like I read someone said, if you need that much security and privacy you probably shouldnt be on the computer and internet anyway. For I just dont believe that if someone wants it I can stop them from getting it.
But have to learn enough to make them do what I want. Even though I have little need for privacy or secrecy for I keep little if any sensitive material on PC and make copies of what is important to me, but I too would like to block access of others as much as I can without limiting my own access.

Ive edited group policy and the registry to hack in "Notify but dont Download" for updates. It works for the most part but i need to remove the modification if i want to install the updates though. They really went all out to try and force updates on people. I dont mind getting the update but i still like to choose when to download them, not when im in the middle of an Online game match.

I feel exactly the same. There is nothing worse than getting an update when you are playing a game and you are really deep into it then a subsequent reboot. I did the same GP and REG hacks as well to prevent that.

Classic shell is free, and very good. Start10 is not free (just the trial is free) and is slightly better for the noobs whereas Classic shell is better for the more experienced. However I do the same as you I keep it mostly as it is because I want to know it in it's real form and only in the real form do you get accurate experience with the version of windows as it truly is.

Right now I am not on Windows 10 but from memory you go to PC Settings and then Privacy and disable everything that allows Microsoft to snoop into your computer and take out information. There are about 8 settings I think from memory.
Stardock is $4.99 and As Will said Classic Shell is free. Strardock is the exact Windows 7 Start Menu including color and symbols whereas Classic Shell is a monotone color and not as easy to read. Both have on the very top a way back into the original Windows 10 Start Menu if you feel you need it for something.

I believe it is only home version of Windows 10 that eliminates user choice for Windows Updates and I am using Pro but as I remember you can still look at the updates by using "search" and then typing in Windows Updates and the first entry is the old Update screen with choices in Home version.
The other thing I do is right click that enormous "Search" on the right side of the taskbar that blocks the Quick Launch and choose "Hide" for that ridiculous search bar.

I assume you mean me Gary and I looked at your two links and they show absolutely nothing about the Privacy settings I am referring to. Why not wait an hour or two until I get on my Windows 10 pc and I'll put that in like I was going to..

I can wait! I think CHF members will find this thread valuable if they have W10, or are thinking about up grading!
The privacy seems to be upsetting W10 users. That and the forced up dates.
I have not changed any setting on privacy. They are set to default! I hope you are felling better my friend.;)
