    Which AV and Firewall do you have ?

    Sorry Ken only saw this reply just very unusual for me not to get back at once.

    have no problem accessing the net normally .

    I am using windows security essentials

    Hi Bob,

    I have Essentials too - and I can't see any way to block Chrome from there.

    Try disabling your firewall.
    If Chrome connects we need to locate the setting in the Firewall.

    Don't forget to enable the firewall immediately after checking.

    a little help with disabling firewall please Ken

    Also dont know if this is any help managed to copy


    google chrome error
    Go to the spanner menu > Options > Under the Bonnet > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.

    I don't have Chrome to check this for you.
    I think this is what the path is referring to
    You are looking for deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" and make sure there is no check in the box.

    If you are using Windows Firewall simply go to your control panel and there is an icon for Windows firewall. In the column on the left there is a spot to turn the firewall on or off.

    Yes Nev Chrome worked with firewall on or off Remember this error is intermittent.

    take a look in the Hosts file for me please:

    C:>windows>system32>drivers>etc
    Click on Hosts .............it will open in Notepad.
    Not the .txt file

    Is there anything there relating to Google or Chrome ?

    Can you confirm that you opened the Hosts file please.
    It should look something like this:


    #

    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    # localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost

    If not ...............copy this and paste this into Start Search
    C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    I just want to check that Google Chrome is not being blocked there.

    That's it Bob - and nothing untoward is listed.

    I would be inclined to uninstall Chrome and re-install it.
    see if that solves the problem.
