I had a Sony Vaio VGC-RB42G, I loved it and never wanted anything more but alas after 5 yrs the motherboard went out. I priced new comparable PCs and opted to fix my Vaio.

For reasons I just cant seem to grasp we purchased a new motherboard and it will not run Windows XP, meaning my additional Sony Vaio programs I know and love are also gone since my choices were Vista or Windows 7. I said to make my PC just like it was and $400 later I have the same case and that is about it. Where did I go wrong? Im not the type of person to just get walked all over so can I have my old motherboard repaired and use it to go back and have my old setup?

Also I had 4 sticks of RAM for a total of 2 gb but I also had to buy new RAM that were 1 gb each so they told me I would probably be able to sell my old ones but I noticed they forgot to put those in my bag. This PC was once setup so I could work from home and I had thousands imaged documents with clients personal information on my computer should I go and demand they return those 4 memory sticks today? For the most part I am just worn out over the whole waiting/repairing ordeal not the cost or the problems we came across. In hindsight I would have liked to have walked into my loacal store and find the best Sony Vaio Tower and bought it but Sony line up has changed and I saw my exact PC used on Craigslist for $500 so it at the time I figured I should go ahead and repair mine if they are still that expesive used. So what the chance of my old motherboard getting repaired or is it worth it?

not really the cost and compexity of fault finding and repairing such a complex component would mean you could probably buy a used PC for a fraction of the price

I would unless they bought them/ part exchanged them from you

This information would not be on your RAM sticks but on your Hard Drive and would remain on that Hard drive until it was formated so do you have a new Hard drive or have they formated your old hard drive and put a new Operating system on it? if they have formated and installed a new Operating system then all of this information will have been lost.

So this leaves us with what you have actually had done and what the problems are with your current system.

If not able to put right the damage done by what sounds like a bunch of cowboys, we may be able to help you at least set up your new PC so you can live with and grow to love it like your old one, Maybe?

Dont worry about the system being Vista or Windows 7 as most XP programs can still be run in compatability mode under Vista and W7

How did they assertain that it was the MOBO that was shot and nothing else?
from your other post they dont seem to know what they are doing so any help I can offer I will.
