I have a Dell desktop and it works but at random times it will freeze and kind of reboot and at the black screen it will say SATA-0 not found no boot device available. I checked the cords and they seem fine. Sometimes the computer goes for days without doing it and other times just minutes. I don't think the hard drive is the problem since we got it less than a year ago. I tried running norton and it always seems to do it as norton is scanning, might be because norton takes an hour or two though. My PS3 is already broken and I would be bored to death if I lose my pc now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Chang. Welcome to CHF.

I suggest you run CHKDSK first.

I tried CHKDSK twice and I would watch tv or something while it scanned but when i come back it is at the no boot device available screen. Thank you for the reply and I again appreciate any help anybody has to offer.

Think DSTM was along the right lines, the HDD may be on it's last legs even though CHKDSK may have not shown it , might also need the check the temperatures the computer runs at? If it is overheating that could be why it is shutting down, but to me I would put money down on something to do with the HDD (it's not unheard of to have a HDD fail after less than a year, I had one fail on me after 9 months in my old laptop) or how it is connected to the Motherboard (either the cables or the SATA port on the Motherboard).

Possibly try another SATA port on the Motherboard and cable to rule those out as well.
