The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated with a festival for workers and their families on the 5th of September 1882 in New York City ... have a happy and safe Holiday everyone!

Thanks much. We must be the only country in the World that gives regular workers a day off each year.

In Ireland and the UK they just have "Bank Holidays" that always fall on a Monday. They don't even give any pretense that they are related to anything. They are just there.

True barry, we do :) They were infact, created by a guy who loved cricket, and thought that all Bank employees should geta chance to go out an dplay sport/cricket as Banks always tended to open everyday. so he made public holidays specially for bank employees to go out and have fun or play games.

Now, though, most banks open all the time anyway, and people who work on a bank holiday such as police, firemen, ambulances, get extra pay for it.

I just wish this is one thing that didn't change in history:

"Prior to 1834, the Bank of England observed about thirty-three saints' days and religious festivals as holidays, but in 1834, this was reduced to just four: 1 May, 1 November, Good Friday, and Christmas Day."

Imagine 33 days of holiday for everyone! :D LOL

Anyway, Happy Labor day all you Yanks! :) sorry... Americans :)
