    Guess What This Is?

    .
Hint: picture was taken in 1956...
    Answer below...

It's a hard disk drive back in 1956... with

    5 MB of storage

    Wow!!

In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first SUPER computer with a hard disk drive (HDD).

The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a whopping 5 MB of data.

Do you appreciate your 8 GB memory stick now, or a 3GS iPhone with 32 GB of memory?

Yes I do :p as I Don't have a plane or forklift to carry the older type around, I think it might also cause a few problems getting it into friends houses

I was employed at the RCA Astro Division in Princeton in the '70's in security. The computers were housed
in climate controlled rooms. They were each the size of a large upright freezer. Times have sure changed! [IMG]

Yep sure have, I remember having to record my favourite songs off the radio with a spool to pool tape recorder and a Microphone
TV's that only received 3 TV channels, and commentators having to describe colours
Phones that came with one ring tone, ring being the prominent word,
Watches that had to be wound up when they stopped
Slide rules !! wonder if I could still use one??
Games that required dice and boards
Driving simulators that were made from pram wheels and wood :D
Job descriptions that told you what the person actually did.

Damn Kids of today don't know what they are missing out on :D
wonder how many Dad's today sit down and show there son's how to make a Kite or Plane and take them down the Park?

Things have changed in terms of hardware, whenever I go into a server room they still look like freezers and its cold in there, but rather than 1 server per freezer there are 30+ :)
