Just read about this one which loads FireFox at bootup so is supposed to speed it up.

As a diehard Opera user I do not want to try it myself but am interested to see what other members may think of it.

With todays browser startup times why would you want to use it? I.E.9, Firefox 4 and Opera are all very fast so why try to fix what isnt broken? All you are doing is adding more to the running processes which in turn will slow up your system.

Not sure why browsers load slowly on some computers but not all - but regardless, for those with a pokey loading Firefox, bet this will come in handy, Rowal. :)

Firefox can be slow to open for the first time when the computer is turned on but it's not too bad on subsequent openings. I guess the pre-loader will overcome this providing that, when the computer is first turned on, you give it time to initially load whatever part(s) of Firefox it pre-loads. After that, Firefox would open very fast I'd think. I read the pre-loader doesn't take very much in resources, so maybe no (or only little) drawback there.

I think it becomes troublesome when update time comes because Firefox is never completely closed. So before updates to programs or extensions are installed, the pre-loader would have to be un-loaded.

I downloaded an installed Opera (now off my machine) an could not figure out how to use
anything on it. I sure hope Mozilla can see clear to getting version 4.0 squared away or
    continue supporting version 3.6.16.

    Thanks

Opera 11.10, FF4, Chrome, and IE9 all have a very similar bare bones type format now so better get used to it, LOL.

Ah but I am one of those who still has WindowsXP SP3 and will until they stop support in 2014.
Can't ever say never, but I sure don't foresee using IE even when I am forced to use some
new operating system. May have to come here an be taught how to use Opera or Chrome
however. Hope not as I do like Firefox albeit not this dang version 4.0. Add-ons is not a
biggie for me seeing as how I have only two. The biggie is how to utilize the WEB browser
itself an how fast it will display the sites I am trying to open.

    Thanks

I have tried FF4 on a different machine and while my use is very limited it appears to be OK. Just OK nothing to write home about. I assume they will keep perfecting it but for now I will stick with the3.6.

On the other hand, I need to use Internet Explorer on a few business websites where I need to input information. As a result I have played with IE9 and it seems to be a major improvement over previous versions.

Wildman, I went kicking and screaming from Windows 98 to that thing they call XP. (After I got to used to it, I loved it.) I never left it for Vista but all good things must end and Windows 7 is everything Vista should have been. I don't know what kind of computer you use (laptop, etc.) but my suggestion is to invest in a Windows 7 machine a few months earlier than you may need to and get used to it. It is different but much better. I still use my XP machine from time to time but it is beginning to feel like a dinosaur. I guess that is a good thing.

    @Wildman

I can certainly understand that and there are millions around the world who will agree with you, but I will just say that I started using Win7 when the first trial version came out and have used nothing else since.

I have a 7x64 laptop, a dual boot 7x32 and Vista laptop, and dual boot 7x32 and 7x64 tower and just love 7. XP machines have all been sold off and I don't have one nostalgic moment, LOL. I find it an absolute pain to have to think back to XP when advising someone now.

Browsers are the same - have a play and get used to the differences.

    Cheers, Rob

Firefox 4 runs well on my system with the addons that I like. The speed is up where I want it to be and dont have any real complaints about it.

Well call me pig headed, but I'm sticking with XP for as long as I can. I have been playing around
with computers in some way or another on an off since back in the late 1970's. I'm getting
to the point where it ticks me off to have to yet learn all over again to get anything accomplished.
Okay improve upon them, but at least let the method to use them remain the same. They think
they are making things easier, well in my opinion they are not. If this Firefox browser goes the
way of Chrome, I shall be looking for a different one. Anybody know anything about
    Simplebrowser?

    Thanks
    Wildman

Hey, I agree with "that guy", Doug - huge smile! - although perhaps for not all the reason given there. Yup,. I kind of think of Windows Versions like updating our car every year or two by replacing it with a new one. It may look better and have more 'bells and whistles' which are always lovely but in today's economy, suspect that article may be really true - Windows XP works and works well and new versions of Windows are undoubtedly nice but somewhere down at the bottom of a family's 'need' list. So ... for all sorts of reasons, add me to your "I'm keeping my Windows XP, Wildman! :)

(Can sympathize with the added effort of working with an old OS system, Rowal, when helping with computer woes though ... but you've helped me and are always such a kind gentleman when doing it and I really do appreciate it!

I really like Firefox but I think it may be simply what one is comfortable with ... mind you, I'm doing a wee grumble right now as when I updated to the newest version, all my usual add-ons have run away and now I need to track them down and redo everything - drat. And where on earth did my 'Reload/refresh' option go, I wonder. Yup, grumble grumble and off I go to get my Firefox back the way it was before.

Actually, I do agree with the points that "that Guy" makes Doug, LOL.

But 98SE was a really good OS too and we all moved on when XP came onto the scene. That time is coming again.

I happen to be one who likes new stuff and am prepared to go through the learning curve ASAP, albeit with some muttering at times.
Whatever floats yer boat, LOL. Getting back to browsers, I have tried most of those around at the moment (not Simplebrowser I'm afraid) and just gravitated to Opera which suits me. Browser use always has and always will be a personal thing.

    Cheers

    OK, LOL

This is for all of you who want to try FF4 but keep FF3 at the same time.

I think what you meant to say rowal is How to make FF4 look like FF3. At the end of the day its still FF4 but customized to look like FF3.
