Firefox Shutting Off When I Close A Email Window

I am so tired of this. But when let me back up. I use Firefox and it is updated. Windows xp and have Norton 360 newly installed about 2 months ago. I did reinstall java for some reason it was gone. But I go in and disable the toolkit to it how can I get rid of it it says can cause stability problems. Guess it came with the install???
When i am checking email and close the window out by saving as new or any other type it closes out and I have to restart Firefox. it also does this sometimes when i put something in the search window and hit enter it closes out. Also some of my saved marks in my toolbar. I Have no clue what is going on and it takes forever and about 12 clicks to restart it. HELP ANYONE??????

 

Google Chrome is all i have to say never have any problems with it!!(seriously though I have no idea what it could be)

 

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea either. Just started this for about a month. I wonder if Java is the issue and I should reinstall it.Or maybe Adobe? I did have to update or so it told me I did?????

Norton has a reputation of playing with files it shouldn't.

I would first disable your Antivirus, for a short time and see if the problem persists.

You could also run in safe mode, to check whether the shutting down is still there.

I would remove any toolbars,other than those absolutely necessary.

Failing this I would reinstall FireFox,and slowly add plugins,checking for random shutdown,as you go,

because Plugins can cause this also.

First Java, I understand right you wish to Un-install it?

Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs Click on Remove then Yes



Next Firefox

lets first see if Un-installing Java has had an effect, then we will know if that is the problem

 

Just following up on both of the above posts. Firefox is unusual in that it has its own "safe Mode" that allows you to disable most add ons etc. Just locate firefox in the program menu (not your desktop or quick launch bar). If uninstalling java as Match suggested does not work try the firefox safemode in the various combination that it offers and see if any of it solves this shutdown problem.

 

Firefox does seem to have these kind of problems, occasionally. The next version (four) sounds like some resolution may take place in the way it reacts with extensions.

In the meantime, doing an uninstall / reinstall may solve things.

Ok I will do all the above. I don't want to uninstall java because I think I have to have it for my web site. But I could uninstall and then reinstall and see if maybe it just has a glitch in it. I will try above items and see what happens then report later. Thanks and thanks for the welcome
