I have firefox 3.6.10 ,and just this morning it crashed 4 times in the space of a few hours. it came right back, but i'm wondering if there is something going on, like a virus or worm attack.

AV is anti virus and you answered that one. AS is anti spyware such as Malwarebytes or Supreantispyware. Are you using any of these?

Hi mgkrebbs, and a happy welcome to Computer Help Forums!

I can't help but smile in sympathy as without intending to, our wonderful experts 'got' me the same way - and I'd sit looking at the abbreviations and think "yikes"! Not to worry, once they know we're still learning, they honestly are the most patient and kindness of Experts around.

I had a bit of a woe with FireFox myself - was getting lots of the 'Sorry but we have to close" windows popping up but our Experts here rescued me by suggesting I use a full compliment of security measures and I wonder if you too would like some suggestions?

For instance, on their recommendations, I've got the simplest things to understand possible (all freeware, of course - too much Scottish blood in me to want to pay - gentle grin):

    Sygate Personal Firewall
    Avira Anti Anti-Virus Guard
Scotty Win Patrol (it actually sends out a 'woofing' sound when something is trying to change settings, etc within my computer)
    Malware AntiBites

Our Experts would honestly be more than happy to work with you so you too have some perfect programs on your computer, mgkrebbs,.

And in the interim, is your FireFox still crashing, I wonder? (Never worry about asking multiple questions here - nope, never - our Experts are always happy to help!

    Mara

    Hi mgkrebbs,
These are the Anti-Spyware-scanners, mentioned in this thread without spelling errors :

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    SUPERAntiSpyware
    http://www.superantispyware.com/

Don't forget to update each scanner after downloading and do a "full scan".

Using these scanners (however they are spelled ) may (and that is only a may) detect malware that might be causing this issue.
The fact that they were mentioned is merely a first step. However run the scans and let us know if they detect anything that may be the cause and we will take it from there.

okay, a few months back i had some problems, and installed malwarebytes - and it shows that i have it in "add or remove programs." I tried to ununstall it, but i get an error message that it is missing. will reinstalling it solve that problem?

i started working with computers at work back when it pretty much started, using mainly mainframe software - and yet the deeper i get into get into computers the less i realize i really know. Of course, the internet especially has become a dark wilderness for a lot of people, especially us seniors.

I appreciate your comments and help.

Hi. Looks like the uninstaller may be missing.

Download and run this mbam-clean .exe  from Malwarebytes.

This will remove the old Malwarebytes from your OS.

    http://www.malwareby.../mbam-clean.exe

It will ask you to restart your Computer.Important that you do.

Then download and install the latest version of Malwarebytes.

    HTH.

I would make sure no  Antivirus,or other Program, is preventing this.

At this point I would try and install Malwarebytes, in safe Mode.

    Tapping F8 on Start up.

One of our experienced Techies, may have another suggestion. :)

Before we try anything else go to your programs and select Mozilla and then try Firefox in its safe mode. If it does not crash the same way we may be able to narrow the problem down to and add on or extension. Otherwise we may have to look more deeply into the malware possibility.

firefox just crashed in safe mode. I was going to various websites that i commonly go to and it crashed as a new site was loading. i have the full version of AVG plus malwarebytes and their scans have found no problems. I'm using internet explorer and google cheome and have not had similar crashes on them. I'm thinking i should cancel firefox and re-start it (like a reboot).

OK did it crash in Firefox safemode or Windows safemode?

If your other browsers are working I would I would uninstall Firefox completely including all profiles and start over again.
