Open the Volume Mixer. You can do that by right-clicking the sound icon in the Notification Area. That's the area near the clock on the corner of your screen. Do this with Firefox open. Is there a slider associated with Firefox?

Did you see Firefox in the Sound Mixer. If so, was it set to full volume?

Note: The Firefox sound icon only shows up when audio is present on a web page. Try loading a video on YouTube.

OK, that answers the first question. What happens when you try to watch a YouTube video?

Maybe there's an add-on causing the problem

Start Firefox without add-ons by holding the Shift key while launching the application. You'll be presented with a dialog box. Click on Start in Safe Mode. See what happens. If that doesn't fix it, again start Firefox while holding the Shift key and select Refresh.

At this point, uninstall and reinstall Firefox from a fresh download. Suggest you backup ( or export, or both) your bookmarks so that they'll be available when Firefox is reinstalled.

I uninstalled Firefox and then reinstalled it. There is still no sound. When I checked the sound mixer there is no firefox sound to adjust Maybe that is why there is no sound

Yes, there needs to be an icon for Firefox in the Mixer. That icon does not appear unless Firefox is running.

List the Firefox items you have under Plugins.
For each also list if the plugin is set to: Never Activate, Ask to Activate or Always Activate.

You can use the snipping tool if you want to simply post the screenshot of what is in Plugins.

Uninstall Adobe Flash, restart the computer, open FF, then get Flash from here:

    https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Uncheck the optional offers, install flash, then close and re-open FF.
