Firefox updated today to 3.6.16 and of course has indicated that FF4 is available. Has anyone tried it yet and what are your opinions if you have. I will try it later on another machine before I commit to it.

I installed FFox4 yesterday. All went smoothly. Very much like usual update.

As usual, several extensions didn't work. I removed the requirement for Compatibility (as I have done for the last year, or so.) It's an about:config mod. That freed up a few more.
Since I have a wide monitor, I like my Tabs vertical. I looked around and found a substitute for my previous extension - with no options, other than Vertical, however.

Firefox 4 doesn't look all that different after I made a few tweaks.

It does seem rather peppy; so, I guess it is loading faster.

    :)

It's still a memory hog. I installed because I had been told that most of the serious memory leaks had been fixed in v4. That wasn't true at all. It is actually a little worse.

When I start it up it will use a little of 33M of memory. After I open a few tabs to work on clients sites or my sites I watch task manager. Within 30 minutes it's eaten up 1 gig of memory. This is with no extensions or any addons. No java, flash or anything else. Now this wouldn't be bad, but, it doesn't release the memory as I close out tabs. Instead for whatever reason as I close a tab memory usage increases. Once it gets to 1.5 gigs the browser is totally unresponsive. I have to force close it.

I still use it, but, I am using less and less. If I need to have more than 3 tabs open I don't even bother with Firefox. To me it's utter garbage for anything other than casual web surfing. If you need to do any real work use IE or Opera.

I am finding Firefox 4 a lot worse Bob, not a little. Just wish there was an add blocker that works in Opera is all.
I was wondering why after a period of time with Firefox opened, that video became unusable, then I found Firefox had nearly half the 4GB of memory tied up and as I watched it was eating more continuously.
Close Firefox, and no problem, re-open, back to small figures but climbing again.
I would recommend everyone who uses Firefox to open task manager and watch for yourselves. The decision is up to you from there.

Give Memory Fox a try. It constantly / periodically recovers memory from Firefox.

    You have to Install it.
    Restart FFox
    Open Options for Memory Fox
Click Automatically Run at System Start
    Restart FFox

You will see afom.exe running in Task Manager

Watch firefox.exe and you will see memory returned periodically.

Thanks for that, KlicKKatt. When I update to FireFox 4, I will keep that in mind. :)

Yesterday I downloaded an installed version 3.6.17. I am guessing that perhaps some of us did get through to them that version 4.0 indeed sucks.

    Thanks
