FBI spokesman: We're not investigating Palin

(CNN) -- The FBI, in a rare response to rampant rumors on the Internet, said it is not investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on public corruption charges.

"Normally, we don't confirm or deny those kind of allegations out there. But, by not doing so, it just casts her in a very bad light," said FBI Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, who confirmed for CNN the statement he made to the Anchorage Daily News. "There is just no truth to those rumors out there in the blogosphere."

Gonzalez told The Los Angeles Times that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry.

The speculation began almost immediately after Palin's unexpected announcement on Friday that she would step down as Alaska's chief executive with 18 months left in her term.

Palin, who was John McCain's surprise vice presidential candidate in the 2008 election, said she already knew she would not seek a second term and decided against being a lame duck governor for the next 18 months.

She also said too much time and taxpayer expense were going toward fighting ethics investigations, and that the mainstream media were continuing with unfair attacks on her and her family.

Some analysts think Palin will seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, and that her resignation is intended to free her to prepare.

Immediate reaction to Palin's resignation among fellow conservatives was not positive.

    Read Here.

She sure got out of that one....

She is dumb but not stupid. There is no way in hell that she could get elected President and she knows it. It serves her purposes to look like an important candidate and she will have the support of the fringe Republican base because they assume that they can control her. Of course John McCain thought he could control her too.
Look for her on Fox News.

As for the FBI that is an unusual announcement but there are many Federal and State agencies that investigate and the FBI is only one.

I highly doubt that the Republicans will back her any longer. Her behavior has been upsetting to them and they are just as dumbfounded as to her reasoning behind her resignation as the general public is.

She has a snowballs chance in Hell before she gets elected to any position in any office again.

Yup, we have the cutest moosies :), deer, mountain lions and all sorts of cute furry critters - and our direct neighbours here are the bears.

But while we have the Yukon, her state is Alaska - and I bet there have been a lot of Alaskans who try to pawn her off as one of ours :D.

Thanks for the link to her latest interview, pchelp68.

She made a good choice having the interview outdoors with her family doing 'normal people stuff' to make her more human to viewers, etc.

But try as I might to like this woman, still think there's something intrinsically 'scary' about her. Do wish she'd stop trying to sound like a martyr by stepping down for the "good of Alaska". (Not saying her action isn't good for her State, just that I personally don't feel that's her true agenda).

Nope, can't see Russia from our bathroom! Would be hard pressed to do it as I live near the West Coast of British Columbia :)

Well along with being Canadian you will never get my vote for President. We need someone why can see at least one border.

Aha, got you on that one! :)

Not only can I see the State of Washington, wandering back and forth across the Border is a 'normal' thing to do for lots of us, both Americans and Canadians.

Perhaps one of the more remarkable things is we, the citizens of both Countries, seem pretty much interchangeable with each other in so many ways - well, we do have the monopoly on cute 'moosies', though!

(We may be about to get our knuckles rapped for leading poor Mrs. Palin's thread astray!)

The Palin thread no longer matters, it seem to me that you are acknowledging that you are spying on us for the Canadians and trying to pass as a real Merican.
(As in "My fellow Mericans") You will be hearing from Homeland Security.
