My device manager for ethernet has no option to turn off energy-efficient ethernet, and it is causing my internet to disconnect. Is there any other way to turn off the energy-efficient ethernet option?

    Hello and welcome Rowan,

How to you know the machine is turning off your Ethernet adapter? Could it be something else causing your Internet access to disconnect? Maybe the router?

When you lose the Internet connection can you ping the router?

Back to your question about turning off the energy-efficiency setting.

Here's a screen shot of the Ethernet adapter properties in my Windows 10 laptop. Note the tab for Power Management. My Windows 7 laptop also has a Power Management tab. I don't see that tab in your windows capture. What version of Windows are you using?

I am using Windows 10. I am pretty sure that it's the EEE turning off the connection, as there is another PC using the same ethernet that doesn't disconnect.

Interesting, your Windows 10 device properties for the Ethernet adapter isn't the same as mine. It doesn't show the Power Management tab.

How are you getting to that Properties window? I right click on This PC and select Device Manager. Then open the Network Adapters section, right click on my network adapter and select Properties.

I do the same, except through Computer Management.

Maybe your system doesn't support power management on that network adapter. If that's the case, it wouldn't be turning off. What make/model computer do you have?

Then you have to look to the main board to see if it supports power management. I don't know where to look.

Perhaps you don't see the Power Management tab because your computer's Power Options are set to High Performance. Well, I'm thinking it's either that, or you're using a generic Microsoft driver, and not the manufacturers driver for the ethernet card.

You appear to have lots of things missing under advanced and the power management tab is not present.
Here's what the advanced tab should look like
    nic_settings.gif

I've seen that you need to disable Energy-Efficient Ethernet and Green Ethernet to stop your NIC from turning off.

If I were you, I'd download the latest driver and either install or re-install it.

I set my laptop to High Performance and I still see the Power Management tab.
Also note that that it looks like he has the Realtek driver, not MS generic.

I'm on High Performance with a Realtek driver, and there is no power management tab. I wonder if the "Realtek" driver is a generic ethernet that just identifies it as a Realtek ethernet card.

Anyway, I'm thinking if the driver is reinstalled, or an updated driver is installed (from the manufacturer's site), the Power Management tab would be back.

Good idea - check for a better driver from the manufacturer.
