Today I received an email stating that Remote Desktop and a key logger had been installed on my computer. The message says it knows my password. The credentials it shows were the ones I use for the Avast forum which I haven't visited in ages.

They want $2,900 in bitcoin to delete video of me on a porn site with a split screen of my web cam. (I don't even have a web cam except on my iPad.)

In the end it states "If you want to have evidence, reply with "yes!" and I definitely will send out your video recording to your 12 friends. It is a non negotiable one time offer, so do not ruin my time and yours by replying to this e mail."

Any idea what's up with this?

The exact same email appeared yesterday on one of my clients computers. Thing is, the POS know the password, so a keylogger is installed.

    Starbuck?

The client I speak of is a law firm that has many computers.

Keyloggers? This isn't going to end well.

If it's a keylogger, it must have caught my credentials some time ago because I can't remember the last time I was in the Avast forum.

I noticed on my W7 machine, that LogMeIn was installed 6/10/2018. I don't remember installing it and it doesn't show up in All Programs. Seth, did you see that on your client's machine?

Update: I did not reply to that email. So far, I haven't heard back from whoever sent it.
