In that case try other disks to see if they work.

I know it's a new machine, but sounds like the drive is bad.
Check to see if it's in the Device Manager.
To do that, go to the Control Panel and open the System Control Panel. To the left will be the Device Manager. See if the drive shows up. It should be near the top of the list. Even if it does show up, it doesn't mean the drive is not bad.

About a week ago, I transferred data from a customer's old computer to a new one. He called me the next day to say the exact same thing that Bunny is saying. He would put in a DVD, the drive would spin, but nothing would happen. I checked all the autoplay settings and they were all on. I ended up creating a desktop icon for the drive, and then when he inserted the disk, he could just right click on the drive and choose "play".

If you find the CD/DVD drive in the Device Manager, right click on it and uninstall it. Then restart your computer.

Seth: on your last post - very strange. Don't know why the auto play didn't work.

So when you have a disk inserted and right click on the drive in "This PC", do you get a menu where you can choose things like "Open", "Explore", and "Play"?

Also, are these burnt disks or originals?

Please revisit my post #11 to uninstall the drive. When you reboot, it’ll reload the drive’s driver software.

    Definitely try what Tony suggested.

Other than that, the only other possibility I can think of is a problem in the registry regarding what's known as the upper and lower filters. Let's see what happens with Tony's suggestion.
