When you say it worked on the porch and in the living room, you were able to surf the internet in those 2 places? And you lose the signal in your room? What is your modem and router? Did Comcast provide both or is it one unit?
    Make and model of laptop?

Ok then that is a problem of something blocking the signal and there really are only 2 possibilities to help you and my guess is you won't like either.
One would be to get a wireless adapter card of a much better quality and that woulld be one that plugs into a usb port on the laptop and the other would be to get a better router than you have now which would mean
a stronger signal or one with a range booster or add a wireless access point (sort of like a repeater) to the network perhaps nearer your room to extend the signal. So again what is the router in use now and how old?

I looked on the network of my lap top and my old router is in where it says for the sharing and networking,I had asked this guy on another site about this, and the guy told me that what the comcast guy told me on the phone wasen't what I need to do.

Can you rephrase thepost above above and this time tell us what the guy on the other forum said specifically was wrong with what you were doing. Saying that you were wrong without an explanation of what was wrong is less than no help to any of us in helping you. We need specifics. Network and Sharing Center should show your local area connection. For the third time what is the brand and model of your router. I can't help you with your networking issue without knowing the make and model of the router, and whether or not it is a combined modem router or a separate one of each and exactly what it is.
