Here here nice job Tony....discussing choices for free programs has nothing to do with Approved Forum Software in my opinion also.
Anyone wanting to suggest new entries to CHF Approved Software please PM me as we try to update that whenever situations change.

My recent free favorites are GWX Control panel to remove Windows 10 nag messages my recent favorite free software.
As always I use and recommend Cd Burner XP and Irfanview. I also love Gimp (Photoshop equivalent) and LastPass password saver
not to mention WOT (Web of Trust) and Super Adblock!

 

IMHO It would be good to include a safe down load site for your software. I see some that I already have and use. I'll check out the ones I don't have. I agree nice job Tony! I'm not sure how many need to be added as a sticky in the Approved Software Section.
Not my job LOL. We all probably think ours should be added.

 

Just stay away from the ones that want to install an installer to get your software. Cnet is very bad for that. I use filehippo for all my freeware.

 

Agreed File Hippo and Major Geeks are the only real safe ones.

 

CNET is the worst. They have sold out to advertisers. You have to be extra careful these days.
Here's a freeware that helps a little but you still need to watch freeware software very closely for PUP's these days.

Unchecky is a great resource but I think many know about it and it seems less and less effective lately, nevertheless it is certainly better than nothing.

 

Hi This can be a great informative thread. Everyone has their favorite free software. This can cover a lot of territory.
I would suggest you add a couple of your favorites a couple at a time. Posting a whole bunch of your favorites could cause someone not to participate and CHF want's everyone to participate. I'm sure everyone has a favorite free malware on line scanner.
Mt favorite is ESET on Line Scanner. It will take a couple hours for a scan, but it is one of the malware hunters favorite. Here's a couple of PUP free links

I use ESET online scanner on all infected computers that I work on as well as my own. I go into advanced and change it to do a complete scan which takes a long time to finish, but it's very thorough.

 

Me too I think Eset online scanner is the best!

 

Not sure what you're saying Rich by "many know about it" Also why do you think it is less effective? Why is it less effective?
Is it not unchecking some PUP's? Sorry but I don't understand your reply Rich! I agree you still need to be aware of all down loads. Try to do the custom install if you have that option. That will help you stay away from PUP's also!
