I do actually have another question to ask. Before I used to own a Toshiba laptop before buying my Dell. My Dell has constant lag spikes as of right now yet my Toshiba never had lag problems with my wifi. I've contacted my network provider, gotten a new modem, got a wifi adapter, and had a tech replace our wires, yet the problem still persist. I was wondering if you knew what could be causing a problem with the wifi? I'm unable to have a wired connection since the TV is connected to the modem along with our phone to the modem in the living room. I'm only about 12 feet away from the modem also.

For the network issue could you post that question with what type of wireless and security (WEP/WPA), DSL, Satellite, or Cable

    Thanks

As for my inter network I have Comcast (I didn't choose this, my dad did), I've heard good and bad things about them yet I'm leaning towards bad now that my internet seems to be horrible. As for the WEP and WPA I run WPAWPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES) (at least as what I could see) for both my 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. And just to add I keep my computer on the 5.0GHz only. My phone and my dads kindle stay on the 2.4 GHz.

Are the certain times of the day you notice the lag or when you are preforming certain functions?

Lag can be caused by many things.
Several people accessing the network at the same time.
    Site issues
Services/Process running and accessing the network for updates. Rather it is your system or another.
The channel you are on there may be other in the area running that same channel
    Other electronic devices

Try several browsers and see if they all suffer from the lag. It might be caused by some add-on in a certain browser. I've see Internet Explorer have issues which have been solved by resetting it.

The lag mostly happens when I'm in video games but I can notice when my internet gets slow on the web but don't exactly know the ping since I'm not in game. I'm certainly more annoyed with my games lagging over my web browser.

Are you saying the games are lagging? Are the games on-line? If not, there may be something local to your computer causing the problem. Could even be the hard drive. We need to know of the issue is Internet-related or not.

It would only be me and my dad accessing the internet, but possibly he might be interfering? I didn't have problems with my old computer?
I usually see lag when playing video games since I can actually see my ping and my game lag and glitch.
I called comcast many times and they said they switched my channel so I'm not sure what else it could be.

Yes the FPS is fine but my MPS jumps up and down constantly. I was just playing the game League of Legends and my ping was constantly spiking. My dad isn't home to use the wifi so nothing else could be using up our network. I'm not sure anymore if it's a internet issue. I've called Comcast at least five times in the past six months and they continue to say that it should be all good and yada yada. I honestly don't believe them and I tried to convince my dad to go to FIOS but he refused.

Being that it is Comcast/Xfinity the modems are usually configured to scan and change automatically. Do you have a firewall, antivirus running? If you have automatic update(s) (not just windows). Do you have a cooling tray for the laptop?

What speed are you suppose to have up/down load? Here is a link to see what you may be getting.

    http://www.speedtest.net/

May run it a few times during the day.

I actually think I may have fixed it! I discovered upon getting the new modem I hand't changed my network to work and be open in private. It was set to public and after setting it o private I don't seem to have lag. I'll see if this is a complete fix or not.

I do have a firewall and antivirus (avast) and I don't have any automatic updates that I'm aware of. I do own a cooling tray for the laptop as well. My usual upload speed is around 90 mps and download speed is about 10.

That would explain it with it being set to public. The system will take extra security measures to protect the system. The other nice thing is with the Xfinity if you are some place and you see wfinitywifi (hot spot) you can access the internet.
Not for seeing bandwidth being an issue.

Basically it believes it to be on a public WiFi (Hot Spot) system and not a home.

Post when you fell this is solved.

Yeah I sort of feel stupid now, I always put my networks to home. Crazy how I didn't notice that. I'll make sure that was the fix and post tomorrow on how it's doing.

So I've experienced less lag spikes but it still has been happening. I only got about two or three in the past few days but it's still happening. Maybe it's just a problem with the modem or Comcast going down but any suggestions of what else it could be?

What version of windows are we working with?

See if in the networking properties if IP6 is checked. If it is remove the check and see if that improves.

Access Safe Mode with Networking and see if browsing is any different?

Have you made any changes to the TCP/IP settings?

open a cmd prompt(in the search box type cmd.exe)
    from there type
    net start > c:\full.txt

restart in safe mode and then type

    net start > c:\safe.txt

you then have two files in c:\
open the full and remove all the ones in in c:\safe.txt that leaves you with all the services that only run in full mode and if its fine in safe mode its might be one of those.

The thing is that I usually don't notice the lag in the web, just when I'm, playing online video games because they lag behind a few seconds. If that up there works to internet browsing will it work for online games aswell?

Yes would not run the games in safe mode. Since it loads generic drivers for display and no sound.

Do you have the game graphics set to where? Some of mine lag and when I turn off shadow and reflection it has helped. Have you also tried lowering the quality.

There are a few other commands we can use to clear and reset some of the network.

It isn't the FPS that's lagging, it's my actual network or something interfering with it. I run at least 100 FPS ingame but cap it at 60 to prevent my graphics card from over working. I'm sure that it isn't the FPS because it states in the game what your ping is and what your FPS is. My FPS is stable but my MPS ( ping) spikes.

What is your ISP bandwidth that you are paying for? How many wifi devices are connecting to the network?

I'm unsure about my ISP bandwidth. I could probably ask my dad for the bill and take a look. The only devices connected are my phone, my dad's kindle, and my computer.
