I do not understand this. My lower R tray shows some icons the last of which is "Connections". It ia red with a red crossed X. The top one is my FiOS connection. Thre are 8 others that say they are connected but are nearby but not mine. The last one says "Other Connections. They all say "Connect Automatically" and all say they are connected.. I cannot make a picture of this because whe I try to open the FastStone Capture the box closes. My connection says it is connected in boldface type. If I click any of the others it says it is also connected and a box is checked that says connect automatically. I assume these are nearby networks. My connection always works and I can access internet but why are all these others there and if there is a way why can I not delete them or disconnect them. They all say Connect Automatically.Maybe it is not a problem but I do not need it and cannot seem to get it to go away. If I uncheck the connect automatically box it is still saying connected. I am unfamiliar with this so I am seeking a way to get rid of it and the other networks without messing up MY OWN connection. Is this somehow possible? I am sure someone must have this Windows 7 version and sees this last icon n the row.
Below are two image examples. Thanks for any helpful suggestions. I do not need nor want this.

Do you connect with an Ethernet cable or do you connect wirelessly?

I have Verizon Wireless. For a long time. The box at comes up shows my connection as Connected and 7 others I guess nearby and all say connect automatically. If I uncheck that box that says Connect Automatically the check comes back. The icon in tray started to have an "X" on it. I am unfamiliar with what an Ethernet cable is. Verizon set it all up.

    That is not possible.
You can only have 1 connection active.

You might see 8 nearby but look closer. Only Connected shows at one of the 9 items.
The X over the wifi icon means that you probably have an ethernet cable so wifi is turned off. Again you can only have one connection so if you are wired, you can not connect wirelessly. Remove the ethernet cable and the X over the wireless icon will disappear.

That is what I thought. I was trying to reply but must have waited too long and it disappeared. I do have maybe an ethernet box or cable in next room an rarely but maybe in power outage it goes off and I have had to restart it. But only occasionally. I do not understand this at all. But feel something is not right. Each connection if I click it has a box that says "connect automatically". If I uncheck it is checked again next time I look. There are 9 connections listed and the last one says "Other Network and ALL say Connect Automatically and ALL are checked. The rex "X" on the icon only appeared recently. But I always have a connection and it says so in boldface lower case type. The rest do not.

Why waste time clicking on the neighbor's connections? Chances are if you tried to connect, you would not be able to because it will ask for a password which you don't know. Let it alone; don't keep opening it and trying to change things.

As long as it shows you are connected at the very top to YOUR Verizon connection, then why waste time looking at everyone in your vicinity who has wireless?

I agree! I just do not know what if anything I should or can do. Never thought about it until recently and know of no problems nor issues. The unit is in the next room and I never look at it unless I have no connection and go in and find it not working. Forgotten now what I did at those times to restart it. Never really think about it.
So thought I would post in case I might learn something helpful.Maybe I should just let it be.
