Absolutely amazing, Never seen anything like that! Must be another planet west of Ireland. And they tried to tell me the world was round. Its flat, you fall off in the Atlantic and there it is ----Mars.

Dougie --- I'll bet it's more than uncomfortable, wonder how long these things last.
I see by photo # 45 ( Kite Surfer ) that there is a strong wind with it.
Bet it's worse than photos show

Looks to be over,as the high winds have eased.Looked out the window this morning and definately looked like we were living on another Planet.Mars came to mind.
Everything is covered in this Red Dust. Visibility was just a few Yards.
It has managed to get into our Homes and will have to do a full Spring Clean.
Quite amazing to witness. The dust was choking.
Google "Sydney Dust Storm",and there are some amazing Photographs.
I have lived in Sydney for near 50 yrs,and never seen anything like this.
Will be a huge cleanup, for the City.:)

That is pretty hard to believe you don't picture something like that in a big city.

Unless a heavy rainfall starts in the next day or two, how on earth does one begin to remove that red coating from everything??! Maybe the Government will give away power-washers??!

Inside our Homes are covered in dust,Mara.Huge task to clean everything thoroughly, and wash everything.
Really heavy rain,is what we need. A light shower, would turn everything to mud.
No rain forcast in the next 7 Days.
On TV here today, they say a big possiblity of another one Saturday, but not as bad.
    Sure hope they are wrong.
We are fortunate,it's not Floods,Fire or Earthquake,or the like.
Just a lot of work cleaning. Quite exhausting Today.
My 2 Cats are Black and White, they got out,and came back in Orange.

    Hi Dougie,

It never dawned on me that this was going on now in the present. I was just looking round the site and found your pics by accident.

Would not have been so flippant in my post above if I realised.

Hope everyone is ok and good luck.

    Best wishes

    Rankin

Looks like the photgraph was taken, after it moved through NSW.

    You did do it right,Gunnner.
Just I have very bad eyesight, and now I have studied it more, can see all the Storm.
When I was a young Boy I lived far out in the western Plains, and often used to have dust Storms in Summer.
This isn't the Storm we just had,but this is what they look like comming towards you,and they travel very fast.

Rankin was right - when I saw some of the photos, I too thought of the 'red planet' Mars - yikes! And thanks for adding the photo from space, Gunner - it really does give one a true idea of just how large these dust storms can be.

Dougie, I have my fingers crossed very hard that another won't arrive on the weekend - just seeing that photo you added with the homes about to be overtaken - good grief!!

Is it the kind of dust that can be blown off with perhaps a giant size leaf-blower - or the kind that has to be scrubbed off, I wonder?

It is much like Talcum powder,Mara. Can't blow it,otherwise just puts a Dust Cloud up.
However outside can be hozed down, without a problem.
Inside the Home,it's a real problem.
All drapes, linen etc has to be washed, and every part of the inside of the home has to be cleaned.
The dust is so fine it has got into everything.
    Nearly back to normal,now.
    Has been quite a job.:)

A horrible time - ugh!! Must be truly frightening for those with breathing problems too - and I hope that's the last storm like this you have, Dougie!
