We need to make a change in how these forums appear in order to better serve those with slower or more distant connections. Please go to http://computerhelpforums.net/topic/34911-urgent-changes-needed-please-state-your-preference/ for an explanation and a poll which will allow you to participate in the growth of Computer Help Forums!!

I voted for the third one, Red Runner I think, Close between that and the Cielo one but I liked the cleaner look of Red Runner, means Cielo and Red Runner have 7 each at moment.

I am unable to access the Red Runner skin. Is it due to some permission conflict or something on my end? :(

Can't find anything wrong with it so maybe it is on your end. If you are still having problems when you read this I will give you a forum where it is in use.

Sure hope this new skin ( which ever one ) speeds up CHF. Rite now it takes 1 min. 15 secs. to completely load. And if I click on 'New Topics' another 30 secs. , or more.
Can't blame that on my satellite , as I can bring up another forums in 14 secs..

    BTW---like Red Rider---yup

Yes and No, Skip. I think you will find that when the new skin is up and running you will find it to be consistent with the other forums.

That being said, during all the research I have done and from what I have learned from bschwarz satellite broadband has a very high latency. Put simply it is the amount of time it takes to communicate with the forum server in order for it to start to load. That slows down the entire process. That is not going to change but the load time of the site will. 14 seconds may be good based on your broadband connection but it is really still pretty slow.

I recall your doing ping tests and getting very high numbers. That is the "round trip" time between your sending the ping and it being received and bounced back to you. That will not change. It is actually eating some of your bandwidth. BUT we still should be as fast as any other once we are done.

Did you vote in the poll, Skip? If not you should go and vote for your choice. By the way (Red Rider) it's the top

I received a notification mail about this so decided to come and have a look, found the poll, had a look at the choices, then voted.
Then spent ages trying to find this discussion thread about it, could you put a link in so other folk can find it to give their opinions please?
Must admit the red runner is both a little different from the norm, and quite attractive too. It will make a change from all this blue that so many other forums are.

Tech forum sites, with Blue Skins are as common as Bot Bots. :p
Really sick to death of them.
We need a different color, to stand out from the crowd.
A Bottle of matching Red Hair Color Dye, is in the mail,Mara. :snckr:

Wow, I'll look just like Santa Claus's red suit then! :snckr:. All kidding aside, I happen to agree with you regarding the multitude of blue sites out there - but since we weren't given an option of soft fern green - hmmm:rolleyes:.

Actually, I honestly don't care - since any of the options will help our site, I'll be happy no matter which one is chosen.

If black & white would be the fastest--I'll take it ;) If I could get another service provider I would----But I'll not move to town fer that, no no!

A nice green would have been ideal - and easier on the eyes than Red.

Hi KlickKatt. Here is a green skin.I think it is hard on the eyes.
    LINK.

    A decision has been made.
I would suggest everyone, wait till the finished Skin, appears.
Everyone cannot be pleased. That's impossible.
The whole point of the Skin change, is to speed up Load Times,
for those on slow Internet Download connections.
Let's all get behind Admin, and run with the chosen Skin.
Your thoughts, on Tweaking the New skin, are welcomed, when it appears. :)

I'm quite happy zipping around our new site lay-out and whatever 'skin' is chosen, suspect it will be just as great (only faster to load for members).

Know you don't mean otherwise, Doug - but yup, I'm always "behind" Administration - I can't imagine what it must be like to create a site and have to keep it running (I can hardly keep my own computer running, let alone a site - yikes!).

So no matter what we end up with - a huge huge thank you to Bob and Barry and everyone else - you're all lovely and thanks so much for our terrific site here!! :fshsml:

Unfortunately this time, time was an issue should however, should next time a skin change is called for I'm sure we will be able to be more accommodating in colour preferences, but to help us help you I suppose now would be a good time to discuss what people would like to see next time, so below is a link to some sites that sell the skins for the board if you see one that really jumps out and takes your fancy just post the name and site and we will take a look, and keep it in mind for the future ;)

    Yes.

Because I'm biased (green is right up there as my favourite colour after white ) and because it's fairly rare to see a 'green' site which would help us be more distinct.

(But I really hate to think our Admins are having stress about the new skin colour - you've done a good job. Discovered there was a problem, found a solution, offered us the lovely option of voting for a preferred skin from the options given - and the 'vote is in'. But that said, I literally do not know the advantages of different skins other than simply appearance/colours ... so truly, whatever is best for our site will be perfect!).
