    Hi,
I recently have had a problem logging into vista. If I try normal mode, the screen either stays black and does nothing, or on a rare occassion it will go to my login page and once my password is entered, just spin on welcome and do nothing else. I can login in safe mode, and can also login in safe mode with networking, which is what is allowing me to post this question for help. I have no clue as to what to do, and was wondering if anybody could help me figure out what the problem is, or figure out how to fix it. It was suggested to me to download autoruns, which I did, but I have no idea how to read the results, or what to do with them.

Hi bobbykid. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
    In Safe Mode.
First create a new user account and try logging in with that user.

Well That I have tried, my brother also has a profile on the computer, and the same thing happens with his account. He does not need a password to access his profile, but whem he clicks his name, the same thing happens, where the welcome will just sit and spin and do nothing

There are so many things that can cause this issue,
I would remove all accounts except for the new one you created.
In Safe Mode how many user accounts are now showing?
I would disable UAC and try to log in.
Toolbars are notorious for this issue.
    Recent Software updates.
    Recent Windows update.
    Antivirus update.
It's a process of elimination till you find the culprit.

In safe mode, both mine and his accounts show up, and both load fine with access to everything, except being able to open picture files, etc, or use the printer. As I said I tried the autorun which gave me a scan, and has 5 things highlighted yellow that say file not found. But again I dont know what that means, or if it actually means anything.

How recent was has this been and have you installed or downloaded anything just before this started to happen.

If you go to your Start menu and select "Accessories" from your full list of programs you can then select System Tools and from there select "System Restore" Select a date prior to when this began happening and follow the instructions on the screen. This is a reversible process when you do it this way but you will lose all programs that you may have installed since that date. You will not lose any data, pictures, documents, etc.

It happened about a week ago, and I didnt do any downloading of anything, I just turned the computer on and it happened. I have tried the system restore, but every date I try it always says cannot complete, Ive tried the most recent date, and the farthest back date, but always cannot complete the restore.

I missed this before, what are the "5 things"?

What security programs are you running?

What does it say when you try a system restore. Often one of the first things that often happens with an infected computer is that it interferes with the System restore.
