Bought my wife a new laptop for Christmas but she rarely uses it. We are both elderly & cannot cope with Windows 8 whereas 7 was so easy. Sad to see her having no more interest & I can't help her either.
Is there any way I could get Windows 7 on this Windows 8 machine? I would even pay for it but I assume its not possible.
    Welcome any advice. Thanks.
    Tony

It may be possible to get a Windows 7 disk from the manufacturer.
If that's not possible, you could always purchase a retail copy of Windows 7.

What is the make and model of the laptop?
Use the link here to be sure if you can actually downgrade to 7.

Good advice Cindy. Another aproach would be to make the Windows 8 machine a bit more like XP. There are a couple of programs that aid in this. One is called Classic Shell. I can't remember the name of the other popular application. I haven't used them, but I understand they're pretty good.

Anyone know the other popular application?

I use Start8, it brings back the Start Menu and makes it look and function more like Windows 7.

Is that the one that you meant, Tony? http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/
There is a one time purchase fee of $4.99 but you can try it free for 30 days.

Classic Shell that is free or Start8 from Stardock which I feel is better will give you new life and if you find it boots to slowly then as you build the classic desktop, go back to the Metro Desktop and start deleting the tiles you don't use to speed things up at bootup.
