Just wondering if its safe to buy software OS from a private seller on ebay, could they program the software with a virus or malware to spy on you or infect your pc somehow? Is there anyway to check the software once you install it to see if its clean and safe to use?

Hello and welcome HighHopes, It's impossible for us to verify that a private seller is selling legitimate products.

You can download Linux operating systems directly from the Linux site at https://www.linux.org/pages/download/.

There's no telling what they've added ... until it's too late.
Linux has always advertised that it's free and can be added to as many systems as you like.
Why would you even think of paying someone on Ebay for a copy.

With the help of Youtube I was able to Install Linux Mint myself , very easy and fast, took about 30 min for the whole process to take place. The only thing I dont like about Linux is installing some of the other programs that I used with Windows. Im still working on that.

Thanks for the good news. Did you make an install disk? What site did you go to for the download media?

I used a USB stick and downloaded the media from theLinux site (the link you provided), and verified the ''ISO image'' then installed.

Im just trying to install irfanview now on linux Mint as I find thats a great piece of software, I keep reading about having to install the WINE app first, I tried that but it will never open after installing, I heard thats a common problem for some Mint users.

You only need to install WINE if you want to run Windows programs on your Linux machine. As plodr alluded to, you can probably find a Linux program for each of your computer needs. There are office suites, music, video and photo apps freely available for Linux.
