Wish they could, HD contains alot more data than SD, and unfortunately there is no way at present to create that Data. so SD stays as SD and whats the point of removing Data from HD to convert it to SD when it will play on SD equipment.

Should do, just the same way your SD drive(DVD) connects now

Hmm thats an interesting option, and your choice. how much time do you spend camping?

Yes you can get just Players, and you can get blueray writers, and also you might want to look at lightscribe? (can write an image/picture on the opposite side of the disk, needs special disks though but worth looking at)

Blueray... the technology is useful in some ways and unnecessary in others.

Capacity - the blueray disk is capable of holding 50GB of data as opposed to DVD-R which is 4.7GB (single layer) and 8.5GB (dual layer)

Cost - Blueray players and disks cost considerably more than their DVD counterparts.

If you have blueray media already (PS3 console for example) then yes it is worth buying a player as it has an immediate use for you while camping, if not then I would hold off for prices to drop, I have watched a blueray and DVD side by side and although there is a slight difference, it's not like VHS to DVD was....... save your cash

Blueray requires HD TV's too, most consoles now 'upscale' the image which in essence the image starts off at say 780p and the console 'scales' it to 1080i or p

And to answer your question about can it be used for photos, yes it can but that is a very expensive way of doing it compared to a blank DVD/CD
