    Hi!

Maybe some of you can help me?

    - I was working on my computer when suddenly everything shut down and the blue screen appear.

    - I restarted again my laptop and start several Startup Repairs. In the last repair, I got the report, explained below, and I had the option to specify language and make an administration account which I didn't make because I didn't know how that could affect my laptop. So, I have cancelled that and the computer restart itself.

    - After that, I didn't get anymore the initialising screen of Windows (with the %), but I got the welcome sound of windows vista. (That sound you hear when you need to put your password and start your Windows normally)
BUT THE PROBLEM is that the screen is completely black! I've put my password, or that is what I think, and still everything is black.

Any ideas? How should I proceed? Shall I restart again the computer?

    Thanks,
    Aida

    Hi aida, welcome to CHF

Try using Last known good configuration. Use the link below for details about that.

    Thanks PseFrank .

I have done that with the F8 but also doesn't work... stays all the time on the black screen.
So I did again the Startup Repair, and this time I got a different report:

    Session details
    ------------------------------
    System Disk=\Devce\Harddisk0
    Windows directory=C:Windows
    AutoChk Run=0
    Number of root causes=1

and so on with more things.

Any idea, what can this be?

Do you mean that you where unable to get to the screen that includes "Last known good configuration".....or do you mean that the chosen option did not work?

This is the screen that Frank is referring to. You need to tap on F8 steadily as soon as you see that the splash screen (manufacturers welcome) starts to appear but before windows starts to load.

Yes,Frank and BeeCeeBee that is the screen that I got after pressing F8.

    - Then I've clicked on "Last known good configuration" and don't remember what it happened after that...

But now, I was able to put my password and see my desktop, open some folders... and again! BLUE SCREEN like yesterday.
    - After that I got again the initiallizing % console, then the screen above mention by BeeCeeBee, but this time with less options and actually the option that WIndows suggested me was "Start Windows Normally".

    - I have selected that and got the Black Screen again.

I went to a shop and they told me it could be the memory or the hard disk... and that I should run a check on those things and probably conect my hard disk to another computer and copy all my info and format my PC...
Hope is only that... and that I am not going to lose my files :(

Highlight "Disable automatic restart on system failure." and hit enter. Then reboot your computer. This time if you get a blue screen it will remain open and you will be able to read and advise us of the error code.

If the failure is with Windows or related to faulty memory you should have no issue with retrieving your files. If the Hard Disk is failing you need to remove your data as soon as possible. If you are going to run Chkdsk" do so only once.

Have you updated any drivers recently?
as the screen is staying black but you are getting sound I would say that the display driver or the GPU is faulty

It could be a number of things and the best thing is process of elimination, start pressing F8 as has alreayd been recommended but select SAFE MODE rather than last known good configuration.

When in SAFE MODE do you still get the blue screen or not?

No, in the SAFE MODE I don't get the Blue Screen. And I I didn't updated any drivers recently...

But luckly a friend came over and he is helping me with it :)
Still we don't know what the problem is, but at least we are copying all my files to and external HD and doing some checks in the computer that I don't understand... I thought I could do this by myself with the F8, etc but it looks like NOT.

Thanks for the advices! Hope we can fix it soon!!!

    :D

Once that is done just try doing what I said in post no 7 and then just boot the computer normally and not in safe mode. If you get a blue screen make note of the error codes. That will give us a good idea of what may be wrong. F8 is not a tool it just gives you various options to try. The fact that you can get into safe mode (I think that is what you are saying) indicates that it is very possibly a hardware or driver issue. The error codes should tell us that.

Are you planning a reply to this topic aida, or should we just consider it a dead issue?
